Senior BI Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Create and develop user-oriented data visualization and presentation tools, including SSRS reports, Power BI dashboards, and Excel PivotTables.

• Establish data retrieval and management capabilities for Evolent Health.

• Assist in aligning BI data assets with the strategic goals of the organization.

• Implement business analytics methodologies to enhance decision-making, efficiency, and performance.

• Support technological advancements and ongoing improvements of the core BI platform.

• Conduct complex data analysis utilizing advanced SQL and Excel for client requests, queries, ad-hoc inquiries, business continuity, and analytics.

• Engage with non-technical business users to gather requirements for reports and BI solutions.

• Maintain current BI applications and reports.

• Present findings and take part in knowledge-sharing sessions.

• Utilize AI-assisted engineering throughout requirements analysis, pipeline and code development, testing, debugging, documentation, and operational monitoring.

• Collaborate with AI on solution design and architecture while producing design artifacts for evaluation.

• Validate AI-generated outputs for accuracy, security, maintainability, compliance, and business relevance.

• Design and support data platforms and governed datasets for machine learning, analytics, and generative AI workloads.

• Contribute reusable prompts, skills, agents, engineering playbooks, and AI-assisted development patterns.

• Ensure compliance of AI usage with intellectual property, security, privacy, PHI handling, and Responsible AI policies.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

• Over 5 years of experience in the BI/Data Warehouse domain, focusing on the development of BI solutions and data analysis tasks.

• Strong expertise in Power BI, including reports, dashboards, DAX, and Power Query.

• Experience with Microsoft Fabric, encompassing Lakehouses, Dataflows Gen2, Direct Lake capabilities, and Power Automate.

• Familiarity with Azure Data Services, including Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, and Azure Data Lake.

• Hands-on experience with SSRS and SSIS.

• Advanced SQL skills for data manipulation and performance optimization.

• Experience in implementing ETL/ELT pipelines.

• Ability to work with both relational and cloud-based data sources.

• Experience utilizing AI-assisted development platforms such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, or similar tools in a production environment.

• Strong skills in prompt engineering.

• Experience with AI-assisted testing and AI-enabled delivery practices.

• Familiarity with machine learning data pipelines, vector search technologies, document processing pipelines, or AI data preparation techniques.

• Working knowledge of data governance, lineage, quality, and observability practices supporting AI-enabled solutions.

• High-speed internet connection of over 10 Mbps at home.

• Government-issued photo ID, completion of a comprehensive background check, in-person I-9 verification, and potential drug screening prior to employment.

• Preferred: experience in the healthcare industry with authorizations, claims, eligibility, and patient clinical data.

• Preferred: knowledge of Python, Spark, or Databricks.

• Preferred: familiarity with DevOps/Git, deployment automation, and CI/CD practices.

• Preferred: understanding of data governance, security models, and compliance.

• Preferred: experience in semantic modeling in Power BI and/or Analysis Services tabular models.
