Senior Backend Engineer, Developer Experience

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Spain.

📋 Description

• In the capacity of a Senior Backend Engineer within our Developer Experience team, you will be instrumental in developing the next generation of platform services and developer tools at Hostaway.

• Assist in the extraction of functionality from the monolithic architecture, implementing services based on PHP, Go, and TypeScript, while ensuring new services are dependable, observable, and user-friendly.

• Your contributions will include standardizing service templates, launching new services, APIs, and CI/CD practices, thereby laying the groundwork for Hostaway's future scalability.

• Collaborate on the development of a new authentication and authorization platform alongside Staff Engineers.

• Aid in modularizing and extracting bounded contexts from the monolith into well-defined services.

• Engage with Hostaway's architectural standards.

• Create and maintain APIs, contracts, and service templates with built-in observability.

• Ensure high-quality code through unit, integration, and contract testing.

• Work alongside platform engineers, security teams, and product teams to deliver cross-cutting capabilities.

• Take part in design reviews, code reviews, and architectural discussions.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 6 years of experience in SaaS software development, specifically with live production products.

• Expertise in Go, with a proven history of building and managing production Go services; familiarity with PHP is advantageous.

• Extensive experience with authentication and authorization concepts such as OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML, JWT/session management, RBAC/ABAC, and multi-tenancy.

• Proven ability to define architectural patterns, reference implementations, or shared libraries for other engineering teams.

• Skilled in designing and developing RESTful web APIs, particularly those utilized by internal teams.

• Familiarity with event-driven and service-oriented architectures, with comfort in applying Domain-Driven Design (DDD) principles.

• Experience in migrating or evolving foundational systems without disrupting downstream consumers.

• Proficient in monitoring and supporting production software.

• Experience in a Cloud environment (AWS experience is a plus).

• Experience with message queues (e.g., AWS SQS) is an advantage.

• Proficient in English at a C1 level.
