Senior Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Design and implement scalable backend services utilizing .NET and Azure.

• Architect and enhance event-driven, distributed systems that manage high volumes of financial transactions.

• Develop API-first services with robust contracts, reliability, and observability.

• Lead intricate technical projects from the design phase to production deployment.

• Make architectural decisions that balance speed, scalability, and long-term maintainability.

• Collaborate with Product and Design teams to transform ambiguous challenges into technical solutions.

• Enhance performance, reliability, and system resilience as the platform expands.

• Elevate engineering standards through code reviews, design discussions, and mentorship.

• Disseminate engineering knowledge in regular Lunch & Learn sessions.

• Contribute to experimentation, ownership, and ongoing improvement.

• Work across departments to convert strategic requirements into actionable engineering outputs.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of professional backend engineering experience, ideally in high-growth or product-focused settings.

• Strong proficiency in C# or another strongly typed programming language.

• Familiarity with modern backend design principles.

• Ability to produce production-grade, testable, and maintainable code.

• Extensive experience in designing and implementing RESTful APIs for production.

• Practical knowledge of cloud-native architectures, including Kubernetes, serverless solutions, and managed services, preferably in Azure.

• Experience in constructing or managing distributed, high-throughput systems.

• Knowledge of event-driven architectures and streaming systems like Kafka.

• Experience in executing automated testing strategies, such as unit, integration, contract, and end-to-end testing.

• Strong comprehension of data storage patterns across RDBMS and NoSQL systems.

• Capability to navigate ambiguity and provide clarity in dynamic environments.

• Proven success in a cross-functional team setting.

• Proficiency in utilizing AI tools to enhance the speed, efficiency, and quality of deliverables.

• A degree in Computer Science or an equivalent qualification.

• Experience in fintech, payments, or regulated sectors is an advantage.

• Previous startup experience in scaling systems and teams is a plus.
