Senior Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and manage backend services and APIs that facilitate identity verification, account recovery, and account protection processes.

• Take ownership of database schema design, migrations, query optimization, and ensuring data integrity.

• Construct and enhance systems for authentication, authorization, and data security.

• Architect for reliability under load, incorporating idempotency, safe retries, failure management, and observability.

• Participate in architectural decisions and assist in formulating the technical roadmap.

• Collaborate with product and design teams to deliver secure and user-friendly customer workflows.

• Develop internal tools and dashboards that enhance operational visibility and streamline developer processes.

• Make informed integration choices across frontend, backend, third-party APIs, and customer systems.

• Maintain and support the systems you build.

• Troubleshoot complex production issues spanning services, data, infrastructure, and user interactions.

• Enhance reliability, performance, testing, deployment, and observability.

• Review code, provide mentorship to peers, and elevate the technical standards across the team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in building and managing production backend systems.

• Proficient in backend programming languages such as Node.js, Go, Python, Java, or similar.

• Experience in designing APIs and services utilized by actual customers or large-scale internal systems.

• Strong background in relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL, including schema design and query optimization.

• Practical experience with cloud services, preferably AWS.

• Familiarity with authentication, authorization, identity management, security, or fraud and abuse prevention.

• Ability to work across the tech stack when necessary, ideally with modern frontend frameworks like React or Vue.

• Excellent communication skills and sound judgment in a remote, cross-functional team environment.
