Senior Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.

📋 Description

• Develop accurate, efficient, clean, robust, and maintainable code, primarily using Java 21+

• Create unit, integration, and end-to-end tests to mitigate current errors and prevent future regressions

• Engage in code reviews to learn from peers and provide guidance to others

• Experiment with new technologies and libraries that may enhance productivity

• Produce clear and concise documentation for system users

• Recognize common issues across various systems and devise shared solutions through libraries

• Design systems and features of moderate complexity

• Estimate implementation timelines for designs to facilitate future planning

• Contribute to core systems that have a tangible impact on the business

• Collaborate with a highly skilled, global team

• Take responsibility for significant technical challenges

• Provide mentorship to junior engineers

⛳️ Requirements

• You are a senior engineer with expertise in the architecture, design, implementation, and deployment of business-critical systems

• Demonstrated proficiency in utilizing modern AI development workflows to enhance delivery speed and maintain code quality

• You should be a 'power user' of tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot (Agent Mode), or Cursor

• Extensive experience in Java (21+) and the Spring Boot ecosystem

• Familiarity with PostgreSQL or other relational databases, Apache Kafka, and Docker

• A minimum of 5 years working with microservice architectures, synchronous REST communication over HTTP, and asynchronous communication using Apache Kafka

• In-depth knowledge of database transactions and locking mechanisms

• Understanding of algorithms and data structures for load distribution, such as sharding and leader election

• At least 2 years of experience with logging and metrics technologies: Prometheus, Grafana, Kibana

• 1 year of experience with infrastructure technologies including AWS, GitHub Actions, Kubernetes, Istio, Terraform, and Terragrunt

• Experience in the Fintech sector or within a fast-paced startup environment
