Senior Backend Engineer – AI Platforms, Python, Azure

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colombia.

📋 Description

• Create and develop advanced Agentic AI platforms.

• Build AI-driven microservices, intelligent agents, data pipelines, and enduring event-driven workflows.

• Facilitate automation, decision-making, and AI-enhanced operations at scale.

• Collaborate closely with cloud, AI, and product teams.

• Deliver production-ready AI systems that incorporate LLMs, retrieval pipelines, vector databases, and agent frameworks on Microsoft Azure.

• Prototype, integrate, and enhance intelligent automation, copilots, and multi-agent workflows.

• Embed AI models and agents into production-quality backend systems.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of professional software engineering experience.

• More than 5 years of practical experience in Python backend development (FastAPI, Flask, or similar frameworks).

• At least 5 years of direct experience with REST API design and microservices architecture.

• Over 5 years of hands-on experience with event-driven systems and asynchronous workflows.

• More than 5 years of experience with Azure App Service (containers) and Azure Functions.

• At least 5 years of practical experience with Azure Service Bus (queues/topics).

• Over 5 years of hands-on experience with backend services that support AI, data-driven workflows, and intelligent automation.

• More than 5 years of experience with Cosmos DB (NoSQL; vector search is beneficial).

• At least 5 years of expertise in writing scalable, cloud-native services on Microsoft Azure.

• Familiarity with Agile project management tools (Jira or Azure DevOps).

• Strong grasp of SOLID principles, design patterns, clean architecture, and distributed systems.

• Experience applying Data Science concepts in backend and AI-driven systems.

• Proficiency in data processing and transformation for AI workloads, including feature extraction, embeddings, and structured outputs.

• Experience in developing and integrating data pipelines to facilitate AI and agent-based workflows.

• Understanding of data-driven decision logic and AI-assisted automation in production systems.

• Experience utilizing AI-assisted development tools, such as GitHub Copilot and Cursor IDE or similar AI-driven coding platforms.

• Exposure to or practical experience with Agentic AI and orchestration frameworks, including Microsoft Agent Framework, LangGraph, LangChain, Microsoft Semantic Kernel, AutoGen, and Azure AI Services.

• Knowledge and implementation experience with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), vector databases and semantic search, long-running event-driven AI workflows, prompt engineering, and tool-based agent design.

• Ability to prototype, integrate, and optimize intelligent automation, copilots, and multi-agent workflows.

• Experience in incorporating AI models and agents into production-quality backend systems.

• Capacity to work independently with minimal oversight.

• Excellent communication skills with English proficiency at B2/C1 level.

• A strong sense of ownership and enthusiasm for creating scalable platforms.

• Nice to have: experience with microservices architectures, event-driven patterns, and messaging systems.

• Nice to have: familiarity with ELSA workflows or BPMN-style orchestration.

• Nice to have: experience in test automation and unit testing in Python (PyTest, etc.).

• Nice to have: experience with Azure API Management, Key Vault, Blob Storage, Application Insights, and Azure OpenAI.
