Senior Backend AI Developer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Design and develop backend services and APIs that support applications powered by Generative AI and LLM.

• Construct and manage backend components for Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) solutions, which include document ingestion pipelines, embedding services, vector index management, retrieval logic, and response assembly.

• Provide backend support for agent-based AI systems, focusing on task orchestration, state management, tool execution, and interactions with enterprise systems.

• Create scalable and maintainable backend code primarily in Python, with additional use of SQL and PySpark.

• Connect AI services with enterprise and legacy systems, including SQL Server, on-premises databases, and platforms adjacent to mainframes.

• Establish authentication, authorization, logging, monitoring, and error handling mechanisms.

• Assist with the deployment, configuration, and operation of AI backend workloads in AWS and Azure, which includes both containerized and managed service deployments.

• Collaborate with Generative AI Architects, Applied AI Developers, data engineers, and infrastructure teams.

• Diagnose and resolve backend performance challenges related to latency, throughput, cost, and reliability.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related quantitative field from an accredited institution is required.

• A Master’s degree is preferred.

• Four (4) to six (6) years of experience in backend or platform engineering is necessary.

• A minimum of two (2) years' experience supporting AI-driven or data-intensive services in a production or enterprise setting.

• An equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.

• Hands-on experience in developing backend services on AWS and/or Azure, including the deployment and operation of cloud-based applications.

• Practical experience supporting LLM-based systems, vector search services (such as OpenSearch, Pinecone, Azure AI Search), or event-driven architectures.

• Strong backend development capabilities in Python.

• Solid knowledge of SQL, APIs (REST/gRPC), and backend service design.

• A working understanding of LLMs, embeddings, RAG architectures, and agent-based systems.

• Experience with data pipelines, asynchronous processing, and integration with enterprise data platforms.

• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure concepts, security patterns, and operational best practices.

• The ability to implement backend services that align with enterprise architecture, governance, and compliance requirements.

• Capability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced Transformation Office or innovation-driven environment.
