Senior Automation Engineer – Advanced Manufacturing

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including operations, product engineering, maintenance, quality, procurement, IT, OT, EHS, and business leadership.

• Identify, develop, implement, and enhance advanced manufacturing automation solutions throughout the global supply chain.

• Act as a technical leader with a focus on machining and fabrication processes.

• Establish automation standards, assess emerging technologies, disseminate best practices, and promote repeatable solutions.

• Lead and assist in the development, justification, design, implementation, and optimization of manufacturing automation systems.

• Oversee automation projects from initial concept to production launch.

• Assess manufacturing processes to uncover automation opportunities.

• Create technical concepts, capital estimates, and ROI business cases.

• Serve as the enterprise technical capability owner for welding and joining automation.

• Establish automation standards, specifications, and preferred technologies.

• Provide support to multiple manufacturing sites and business units in alignment with business priorities.

• Lead or assist in vendor selection, RFQs, design reviews, FAT, SAT, commissioning, and startup processes.

• Troubleshoot and enhance existing automation systems.

• Identify and replicate successful solutions across various sites.

• Support the Automation & Advanced Manufacturing roadmap and technology strategy.

• Evaluate new technologies including robotics, vision, simulation, and AI-enabled manufacturing.

• Mentor site engineering resources and provide technical leadership.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Mechatronics, Automation/Controls, Robotics Engineering, or a related field.

• Strong expertise in welding automation, robotic welding, or automated machining and fabrication processes.

• 7+ years of experience in industrial automation, manufacturing engineering, robotics, controls, or advanced manufacturing.

• Proven leadership in significant automation and capital projects.

• Solid understanding of robotics, controls, safety, machine integration, and manufacturing processes.

• Experience in developing automation concepts, specifications, scopes, and business cases.

• Strong project leadership and cross-functional collaboration abilities.

• Willingness to travel as necessary to support enterprise manufacturing sites.

• Familiarity with robotic welding and automated joining systems.

• Experience working with industrial robots, such as FANUC, ABB, KUKA, and Yaskawa/Motoman.

• Knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, industrial networking, and controls integration.

• Experience with machine vision and inspection systems.

• Certified welding experience.

• Background in automated material handling.

• Familiarity with MES, SCADA, OEE, and data collection systems.

• Experience with FAT, SAT, commissioning, and production launch.

• Lean Green Belt Certification is preferred.
