Senior Application Scientist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Configure and facilitate the implementation of Dotmatics Virscidian solutions within intricate laboratory, scientific research, or development environments.

• Assume responsibility for the implementation lifecycle—from project initiation to go-live—ensuring that the scope of work and quotation commitments are fulfilled on schedule, within budget, and align with the customer's scientific goals.

• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including project management, solution architects, product teams, and customers, to understand their requirements, analyze their data environment, assist in the design and implementation of our solutions, and support integration with their data systems.

• Handle demonstrations and training, provide technical support, and engage in business development when applicable.

• Lead discovery initiatives to pinpoint key systems in the customer environment for data integration.

• Offer guidance and best practices on data sourcing to create sustainable integrations and methods utilizing standard Data Ingestion technologies and architectural principles.

• Conduct technical peer reviews and oversee structured user acceptance testing (UAT) and sign-off processes to confirm that delivered solutions adhere to specified requirements.

• Provide oversight and governance for projects with concurrent activities.

• Assess user requirements and provide accurate estimates.

• Train customers on the use of configured solutions and deliver hands-on training to customer scientists and automation teams, ensuring effective adoption and long-term operational success.

• Facilitate communication and collaboration among cross-functional teams in a multinational environment (Project Managers, Developers, Architects).

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in deploying Scientific SaaS solutions within the life science industry/end-user environments.

• Preferably hold a Master’s or PhD in Chemistry or Biology, with a focus on small molecule research.

• Extensive experience in consulting customers (typically within the Scientific/Life Science sector), with a proven track record in SaaS solution implementations.

• Advanced knowledge of the transition from manual to semi-automated to fully automated laboratory workflows.

• Proficient in documenting key business requirements clearly.

• Strong focus on a data-first architecture and data scientist technologies (Databricks, Snowflake) along with data warehouse/lake technologies that facilitate lab orchestration activities.

• Experience with lab informatics software, building queries, web technologies, and familiarity with file transformations such as CSV, XML, XLS, XLSX, and XSL, along with strong configuration management skills.

• In-depth user expertise in Oracle (SQL) as an enterprise tool.

• Advanced knowledge in building and deploying APIs.

• Capable of delivering high-quality presentations and training, including systems diagramming, UML (Universal Markup Language), and ERD (Entity Relationship Diagrams).

• Ability to adapt communication style to suit the audience, translating scientific and technical language into layman’s terms.
