This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +6 more states.
• Take charge of the analytics engineering roadmap, priorities, standards, and operational practices.
• Design and enhance analytics architecture across the bronze, silver, and gold data layers.
• Construct, maintain, and optimize dbt models for curated, reusable, analytics-ready datasets.
• Write and refine advanced SQL, utilizing Python for transformation, validation, automation, and intricate processing.
• Create dimensional and business-oriented data models for dashboards, self-service analysis, operational reporting, and data products.
• Define shared KPI metrics, calculation logic, data contracts, ownership, and authoritative sources.
• Implement automated testing, source freshness checks, documentation, lineage, and monitoring.
• Set up Git-based version control, code review, CI/CD, and manage controlled environment promotions.
• Collaborate with Data Engineering on ingestion, source schemas, platform performance, and data-layer transitions.
• Work alongside analysts, BI developers, and business stakeholders to develop scalable models.
• Enhance Databricks performance and cost-efficiency through table design, incremental processing, query optimization, and compute management.
• Lead investigations into data quality, perform root-cause analysis, remediation, and communication.
• Reinforce data governance, access controls, sensitive data handling, ownership, and stewardship.
• Transition spreadsheet, dashboard, and ad hoc query logic into governed dbt models.
• Design robust models that support historical analysis, adapting source systems, incremental loads, and evolving business definitions.
• Generate technical documentation, modeling conventions, and enablement resources.
• Elevate team capability through design reviews, reusable patterns, feedback, and hands-on mentorship.
• A Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, data engineering, analytics, information systems, mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Over 8 years of relevant experience in data and analytics, including senior-level responsibility for production analytics data models and standards.
• Proven success in leading complex analytics engineering, data engineering, business intelligence engineering, or closely related projects.
• Advanced SQL proficiency with experience in designing, debugging, and optimizing complex transformations.
• Extensive hands-on experience with dbt, covering scalable model architecture, testing, incremental models, snapshots, documentation, macros, packages, and production deployment workflows.
• Strong background in Databricks, including Delta Lake, Spark SQL, Workflows or Jobs, Unity Catalog, and performance management/tuning.
• Experience managing medallion architectures and lakehouse data models across bronze, silver, and gold layers.
• Proficient in Python for data processing, testing, validation, automation, and engineering utilities.
• Solid understanding of dimensional modeling, warehouse and lakehouse design, semantic layers, slowly changing dimensions, and metric governance.
• Familiarity with Git, CI/CD, code review, automated testing, orchestration, and environment management.
• Ability to translate ambiguous business requirements into clear technical designs and communicate effectively with senior leaders and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience in animal health, veterinary services, pet insurance, SaaS, fintech, or health technology is an advantage.
