This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Design and develop data pipelines and transformation models that facilitate the movement of raw data from source systems into a centralized data warehouse.
• Lead the establishment of a canonical employee record with a stable and consistent identifier that remains intact through job changes, rehires, and system migrations.
• Take ownership of the semantic layer for people metrics: define, document, and maintain agreed-upon definitions for core measures to ensure that HR, Finance, and leadership operate with the same data.
• Connect raw data sources to business value by ensuring that data models are not only technically robust but also intentionally designed to address specific strategic inquiries for Wealthsimple.
• Develop slowly-changing dimension patterns and dated workforce snapshots that support accurate point-in-time analyses.
• Implement data governance practices suitable for a people analytics function.
• Collaborate with HR business partners, Finance, and People Operations leaders to convert business inquiries into well-structured data models and sustainable analytical solutions.
• Leverage AI tools to enhance your efficiency by drafting pipeline code, generating documentation, stress-testing metric logic, and translating technical findings into clear communications for non-technical stakeholders.
• Proficiency in Python for pipeline orchestration, data transformation, and scripting tasks.
• Experience with dimensional modeling, including slowly changing dimensions (SCD types 1/2/3) and snapshot patterns.
• Practical experience with dbt or similar tools, encompassing testing documentation and incremental loading patterns.
• Familiarity with pipeline orchestration tools like Airflow, Prefect, or equivalents.
• Knowledge of cloud data warehousing solutions such as Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift.
• Advanced SQL skills, including the use of window functions, common table expressions (CTEs), and date spine logic.
• Understanding of HR data concepts, including employee lifecycle events, job hierarchies, headcount types, and compensation structures.
• Experience in extracting data from various platforms like Workday, Ashby, or Greenhouse.
• Familiarity with version control using Git as a standard practice.
