This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Europe.
• Oversee the design and implementation of internal AI tools and systems that facilitate refurbed’s transition into an AI-driven organization.
• Take ownership of services, integrations, and deployment strategies from prototype stages to secure, dependable full-scale internal deployment.
• Collaborate with the Head of Internal Technology & AI to evaluate feasibility, prioritize projects, and deliver effective solutions.
• Work alongside core platform Engineering teams.
• Design, develop, and manage back-end services, APIs, and integrations for internal AI tools and workflows.
• Manage secure deployment pathways that empower non-engineers to launch internal tools with appropriate safeguards.
• Create and sustain shared AI capabilities, reusable skills, plugins, MCP connectors, and an internal tool registry.
• Provide company-wide AI services and a standardized toolkit for new employees.
• Assess architecture, model selection, integrations, and evaluate build-versus-buy options.
• Define the technical direction and scope of the internal AI platform.
• Establish risk-based review frameworks and evaluate internally developed AI applications.
• Implement access controls, sandboxing, model-usage regulations, and data-handling protections.
• Transition business-critical automations to a reliable, supported infrastructure.
• Develop and enhance technical standards, runtimes, and best practices.
• Promote adoption through demonstrations, documentation, and hands-on integration support.
• Collaborate with departmental AI advocates to eliminate obstacles and create safe, sustainable solutions.
• Document systems for operation, maintenance, and future enhancements.
• Keep abreast of AI advancements and convert relevant developments into business opportunities.
• Senior back-end engineer with extensive experience in developing and managing production systems using Go, Python, or a comparable language.
• Capability to own services comprehensively, encompassing architecture, deployment, secrets management, monitoring, and ongoing reliability.
• Experience in creating AI- or LLM-powered applications for production environments.
• Knowledge of model integration, evaluation, observability, and handling production incidents.
• Practical experience with AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor.
• Familiarity with reusable skills, plugins, MCP integrations, agent workflows, and agent orchestration.
• Ability to assess tools and platforms and make informed build-versus-buy decisions.
• Strong technical insight and product judgment.
• Proficient in collaborating with non-technical stakeholders and adopting a product-oriented approach to internal tools.
• Security-aware mindset that addresses identity, access control, secrets, and data exposure.
• Valid right to work in Europe.
• Preferred experience with Google Cloud Platform, Go, Python, product discovery, corporate IT, identity and access management, application security, or AI transformation (considered additional advantages, not mandatory requirements).
