Senior AI Automation Engineer

Posted 2 hours ago

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design and implement production-grade AI and machine learning systems.

• Oversee the comprehensive design and deployment of predictive and generative AI models — encompassing NLP, classification, regression, and computer vision — for critical Medicare Advantage projects.

• Take ownership of architectural decisions regarding model selection, scalability, and production readiness, while establishing monitoring and drift detection standards adopted across the team.

• Spearhead the design and expansion of intelligent process automation.

• Assess and architect enterprise-wide automation strategies utilizing RPA platforms (such as UiPath and Power Automate) and orchestration tools (like Airflow and Prefect).

• Lead automation ROI analysis, set engineering standards for fault-tolerant workflow design, and serve as the senior technical authority for the organization's most intricate automation pipelines.

• Direct the AI/ML data infrastructure strategy and ensure pipeline reliability.

• Design and oversee robust ETL and feature engineering pipelines that facilitate model training, validation, and real-time inference at scale.

• Establish infrastructure standards for experimentation, retraining, and monitoring, ensuring consistent model performance within a regulated, high-availability production environment.

• Integrate AI and automation systems within the enterprise architecture.

• Lead the incorporation of deployed models and automation services into enterprise products through REST APIs and microservices, setting high standards for engineering security, HIPAA compliance, and maintainability.

• Promote the use of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD best practices throughout the AI engineering team.

• Architect and implement LLM-powered and agentic AI applications.

• Define the technical strategy for embedding large language models into clinical and operational workflows — including prompt engineering, fine-tuning, RAG pipelines, and multi-agent orchestration frameworks (LangChain, LangGraph, AutoGen).

• Manage the delivery of agentic AI solutions that enhance end-to-end workflows in areas such as clinical document intelligence, intelligent prior authorization, and member communication.

• Set reliability standards and foster continuous system improvement.

• Assume responsibility for the performance, reliability, and scalability of AI and automation systems across the team.

• Define alerting, testing, and tuning frameworks that proactively identify degradation before it impacts member outcomes, and lead post-incident reviews to enhance organizational resilience.

• Mentor engineers and cultivate the AI engineering culture.

• Offer senior technical mentorship to mid-level and junior engineers through hands-on code reviews, design critiques, and collaborative problem-solving.

• Participate in hiring, conduct technical interviews, and help establish team-wide engineering standards — including responsible AI practices such as bias detection, model explainability, and governance in high-stakes healthcare environments.

⛳️ Requirements

• 5–8 years of professional experience in software engineering with a clear, progressive emphasis on AI/ML, data science, or intelligent process automation.

• Proven experience in independently owning and delivering complex, production-grade AI/ML systems from conception through deployment and ongoing operations.

• Demonstrated expertise with the complete AI/ML model lifecycle at scale: data architecture, model design, training, validation, deployment, monitoring, and retraining.

• Experience in a regulated industry (healthcare, insurance, or financial services) with a thorough understanding of compliance and security requirements in production AI settings.

• Background in architecting and scaling automation solutions using RPA platforms and workflow orchestration tools, including engagement with cross-functional stakeholders and ROI management.
