This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take ownership of and enhance key accounting processes related to Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), payroll, collections, reconciliations, and the general ledger.
• Manage the entire monthly close process, collaborating with the outsourced bookkeeping team to ensure timely and accurate financial statements are produced.
• Oversee revenue recognition, including compliance with ASC 606, contract reviews, deferred revenue assessments, performance obligation analysis, and allocation for SaaS contracts.
• Supervise Accounts Payable operations via Ramp, which includes vendor management, approval processes, expense reporting, and spending controls.
• Manage Accounts Receivable and collections to foster healthy and predictable cash inflows.
• Work alongside the People team and PEO to coordinate payroll and benefits, including reviewing sales commission calculations prior to payroll execution.
• Create, document, and uphold accounting policies, procedures, internal controls, and closing processes.
• Develop audit-ready documentation and workpapers to prepare Maven for its inaugural financial statement audit.
• Oversee compliance with SaaS sales tax and nexus regulations in partnership with third-party providers and tools as Maven expands into new states and countries.
• Identify opportunities for enhancing and automating financial workflows, and assist in evaluating and implementing systems as Maven grows beyond its current infrastructure.
• Collaborate with the VP of Finance on budgeting, forecasting, cash management, SaaS metrics, investor and board reporting, and other strategic financial initiatives.
• Contribute to building a scalable finance organization playbook, with opportunities to assist in hiring and mentoring future team members.
• 4–6 years of progressive experience in accounting and/or finance with a solid grasp of hands-on accounting fundamentals.
• Proven experience in owning or significantly contributing to the monthly close process and generating accurate, reliable financial reports.
• Extensive knowledge of GAAP and essential accounting processes, including reconciliations, AP, AR, payroll, and internal controls.
• Experience in public accounting is preferred; Big Four audit experience is highly desirable.
• Prior experience in a startup or high-growth technology company is advantageous.
• Strong candidates from public accounting who are ready to transition into a hands-on operating role are encouraged to apply.
• Familiarity with SaaS operations is beneficial, especially in relation to ASC 606, deferred revenue, and SaaS business metrics.
• Comfortable managing outsourced partners and ensuring outcomes without the necessity of personally recording every transaction.
• Ability to investigate technical accounting inquiries, formulate a perspective, and drive issues to resolution.
• Detail-oriented and organized, with the capability to prioritize tasks and operate effectively in a fast-paced startup environment.
• Able to navigate between detailed execution and broader problem-solving tasks.
• CPA certification or progress towards it is a plus.
• Experience with finance systems implementation or enhancement, equity/cap table administration, or FP&A is a plus but not mandatory.
