This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.
• Lead the comprehensive preparation and review of Canadian (GST/HST, PST, QST) and US Sales & Use tax returns, along with Personal Property renditions, ensuring accurate and timely submissions.
• Manage the accounting and reconciliations related to indirect tax, which includes supervising tax liability accounts, month-end accruals, and conducting true-up analysis to maintain financial statement accuracy.
• Stay updated on changes in indirect tax legislation to evaluate and communicate their impacts on the company's tax profile.
• Oversee and lead audits related to indirect tax, acting as the main contact for tax authorities and managing the collection of transactional data and documentation.
• Conduct regular nexus reviews and taxability assessments to identify and mitigate potential risks in both new and existing jurisdictions.
• Ensure comprehensive support for tax positions, which includes managing exemption certificates and maintaining audit-ready documentation.
• Offer strategic indirect tax advice on various business initiatives, including product launches, M&A due diligence, and intercompany transactions.
• Assess the taxability of new products and services, ensuring that correct tax mappings are implemented within ERP systems.
• Collaborate with non-tax stakeholders (such as Procurement, Sales, and IT) to incorporate indirect tax requirements into business processes and contract negotiations.
• Identify and execute process enhancements to improve the efficiency and accuracy of indirect tax data collection and reporting.
• Drive automation initiatives and system improvements, leading the integration of tax engines (e.g., Vertex) with ERP systems (e.g., SAP or IFS).
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; a Master’s in Taxation is advantageous.
• Previous experience in a tax accounting role, specifically focusing on indirect or sales tax.
• Experience managing or leading sales tax audits.
• Background in implementing tax software systems.
• Prior in-house tax experience within a multinational corporation is preferred.
• Strong technical expertise in Canadian and US indirect tax regulations.
• Familiarity with personal property tax and unclaimed property is a plus.
• Proficient in tax software (e.g., Vertex) and ERP systems (e.g., IFS, SAP).
