
Senior Accountant – Canadian Audit, Review Engagements

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Execute Canadian Review Engagements in accordance with CSRE 2400 from initial planning to final completion.
• Conduct small and micro Audit Engagements from inception to conclusion when applicable.
• Assist in or independently handle larger and more intricate Audit and Review Engagements.
• Carry out analytical, substantive, inquiry, and other engagement procedures.
• Detect unusual transactions, accounting concerns, discrepancies, and assurance risks.
• Utilize professional skepticism and judgment when assessing financial data and management explanations.
• Create clear, comprehensive, and well-organized working papers that require minimal review comments.
• Complete and maintain CaseWare/Jazzit files along with PEG checklists.
• Recognize issues that need escalation and communicate them to the engagement team.
• Prepare financial statements and accompanying schedules for Canadian private enterprises and not-for-profit organizations.
• Implement ASPE and ASNPO requirements.
• Conduct account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies or unusual balances.
• Review general ledger accounts, adjusting entries, supporting documentation, and financial information.
• Aid in engagement planning, risk assessment, completion procedures, and documentation.
• Interact with clients to gather information, resolve inquiries, and follow up on outstanding items.
• Manage multiple engagements while adhering to deadlines and quality standards.
• Collaborate directly with Canadian CPA firms across various industries.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• 3–6 years of practical experience in Canadian public accounting.
• Required hands-on experience with Canadian Review Engagements, including CSRE 2400.
• Preferred audit experience; familiarity with both Audit and Review Engagements is advantageous.
• Experience in independently completing small/micro Audit or Review Engagements.
• Strong comprehension of CSRE 2400 and Canadian assurance practices.
• Working knowledge of Canadian Auditing Standards (CAS), ASPE, and/or ASNPO.
• Experience in preparing financial statements and engagement working papers.
• Proficient in CaseWare/Jazzit; familiarity with PEG checklists is preferred.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and the Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience with QuickBooks Online or other Canadian accounting software is a plus.
• Knowledge of internal controls and risk assessment concepts.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Professional skepticism and accounting judgment.
• Excellent attention to detail and documentation standards.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Ability to work autonomously and manage multiple client engagements and deadlines.
• CPA/CA designation or actively pursuing CPA is preferred.
• Experience working directly with Canadian CPA firms is preferred.
• Familiarity with ASPE and ASNPO engagements is preferred.
• Experience with not-for-profit organizations is an advantage.
• Stable broadband internet connection; mobile hotspot is not permitted.
