Senior Accountant

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Ensure precise maintenance of financial records.

• Generate financial statements and handle regulatory reporting.

• Conduct investment accounting for the credit union’s portfolio.

• Aid in the financial budgeting and planning processes.

• Execute reconciliations for general ledger accounts.

• Engage in the month-end closing activities, monthly reporting, variance analysis, and quarterly Call Reports.

• Reconcile bank accounts, general ledger, and suspense accounts.

• Keep fixed asset records and depreciation schedules updated.

• Carry out general ledger entries and reconciliations for the investment portfolio.

• Assist in the monthly Allowance for Credit Losses process.

• Take part in budget and forecast planning while analyzing income and expense trends.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams regarding the accounting implications of new products, services, and initiatives.

• Investigate transaction-level data in conjunction with business partners.

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.

• Support financial audits, internal audits, and regulatory examinations.

• Generate reports and analyses comparing budgeted versus actual performance.

• Assist with the month-end closing for MCU Foundation, management reporting, and audits.

• Help implement and maintain internal controls.

• Document and revise accounting policies and procedures as necessary.

• Create ad-hoc financial reports and analyses.

• Ensure completion of deliverables within designated timelines.

• Undertake related duties and special projects as assigned.

• Report directly to the Manager of Accounting.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related discipline.

• An MBA or CPA designation is preferred.

• Over 5 years of experience in accounting.

• At least 3 years in an accounting role at a similarly sized or larger banking institution or credit union is preferred.

• Comprehensive knowledge of GAAP, regulatory compliance, and financial reporting standards applicable to banks.

• Strong analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail.

• Capability to analyze complex financial data and derive actionable insights.

• Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities.

• Proficient understanding of accounting concepts and the ability to work independently on accounting tasks.

• Excellent collaboration skills.

• Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Excel.

• Experience with general ledger systems like Prologue is a plus.

• Familiarity with banking systems such as the Symitar core banking platform is advantageous.

• Strong commitment to accuracy and integrity in financial reporting.

• Ability to thrive in a high-volume environment and meet deadlines.

• Technological proficiency is required.
