Senior Accountant

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Belgium.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of month-end close responsibilities for designated areas/entities, including journal entries, reconciliations, schedules, and variance analyses.

• Ensure the maintenance of audit-ready working papers and provide clear support for every figure (avoiding any "mystery balances").

• Manage bank and cash reconciliations for over 20 bank/payment accounts (covering multiple entities and currencies).

• Expedite the resolution of open items; implement root-cause fixes to prevent recurring reconciliation discrepancies.

• Oversee and resolve issues related to subscription revenue flow that might hinder the close process (e.g., billing to ERP synchronization errors, credit notes, changes in customer tax/VAT data).

• Assist with the execution and troubleshooting of NetSuite revenue recognition, including addressing workflow/approval issues that prevent posting.

• Ensure that Payhawk remains organized leading into the close: capture invoices/receipts, verify correct entity and coding, complete approvals, retain payment evidence, and resolve synchronization exceptions.

• Maintain the integrity of the balance sheet for assigned accounts (such as prepaids, accruals, intercompany, etc.), including aging and necessary follow-ups.

• Identify root causes of issues and implement permanent fixes (whether process, system, or upstream behavior).

• Create and document SOPs/checklists, enhance controls, and minimize manual tasks.

• Collaborate with Finance leadership to reduce close time and enhance confidence in reported numbers.

• Address ad hoc accounting/finance requests that arise during the month (including analysis, audit inquiries, process improvements, and cross-functional questions).

• Provide support to the Accountant in Residence for tax return preparation as required.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience with direct ownership of month-end close processes.

• Strong skills in reconciliation and documentation discipline (able to explain each balance).

• Familiarity with working in an ERP system (NetSuite is highly preferred).

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, remote setting: proactive communication, high ownership, and minimal supervision.

• Additional commendation if you possess:

• Experience with SaaS subscription billing/revenue (Chargebee experience is advantageous).

• Background in AP/spend tools (Payhawk or similar).

• Experience with multi-entity and multi-currency operations.

• The total budget for this position ranges from US$98,000.00 to US$107,800.00, depending on the cost of living in your area. We are open to hiring talent internationally as contractors or employees if you are located in the United States, the European Union, or Australia, with payroll taxes considered in determining your gross compensation. For employees in the US, gross salaries can range from US$90,384.21 to US$99,422.63.
