This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Take ownership of and manage the entire month-end closing process, ensuring precision, completeness, and punctuality.
• Lead all reconciliations for the balance sheet and key accounts.
• Maintain consistency among sub-ledgers, supporting systems, and financial statements.
• Detect discrepancies, investigate their root causes, and implement corrective measures.
• Review and authorize all Accounts Payable transactions, ensuring accurate coding, approvals, and completeness.
• Supervise payroll reviews to guarantee accuracy, compliance, and consistency with reporting.
• Assess employee expense reports (via Expensify) for correctness, adherence to policy, and proper documentation.
• Ensure the effective functioning of Dext and other intake systems, with accurate recording of transactions.
• Review purchase orders (POs) to confirm alignment with invoices and receipts.
• Verify that goods/services have been received before authorizing payment.
• Strengthen controls throughout the procure-to-pay cycle to minimize risk and enhance visibility.
• Manage audit preparation from the client perspective, including documentation, reconciliations, and schedules.
• Ensure that all financial records are perpetually audit-ready, not just at year-end.
• Serve as the primary liaison for external auditors.
• Identify areas for enhancement in accounting processes, workflows, and controls.
• Improve documentation and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Ensure systems (e.g., Xero, Expensify, Dext, accounting software) are optimized and integrated effectively.
• Promote efficiencies through automation and better utilization of tools.
• Over 5 years of progressive experience in accounting.
• CPA designation (or nearing completion) is preferred.
• Experience in a product-oriented or manufacturing setting is strongly preferred.
• Proven track record in managing the month-end close and full-cycle accounting.
• Direct experience leading or managing the client side of an audit.
• Strong knowledge of internal controls, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Familiarity with tools such as Xero, Expensify, Dext, and contemporary accounting systems.
