Secondary Math Substitute Teacher

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.

📋 Description

• From your secure and distraction-free home office, certified Substitute Teachers will provide virtual support for the learning programs of students in Connections Academy schools nationwide.

• The Substitute Teacher will frequently and regularly consult with students, Learning Coaches, and school staff using the telephone, Internet, and various curriculum tools to ensure every child successfully completes their instructional program.

• The Washington Secondary Math Substitute Teacher will serve as the teacher of record at various Connections Academy schools during short- or long-term absences or vacancies, which can range from 2 to 20 weeks, with the average assignment lasting between 8 to 12 weeks.

• While on assignment, the teacher must be online and available to students, parents, and school personnel Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm in the school's time zone to:

• Regularly communicate with parents, students, and other teachers to develop and update individualized learning plans and schedules, provide feedback on student work, recommend instructional approaches and strategies, monitor assignment completion, and verify student learning.

• Complete all grading, generate progress reports, and conduct parent conferences promptly, as instructed by the school.

• Enhance the instructional program through a mix of synchronous and asynchronous web conferencing sessions (LiveLessons).

• Assist students and parents with alternative instructional strategies and support with daily assignments and projects.

• Maintain up-to-date student records and data, including cumulative files, online student and family information, attendance accounting, and student logs.

• Collaborate with counselors and special educators to meet individual student needs, providing frequent updates on student behaviors and classroom activities.

• When not on assignment, actively check email to stay informed about upcoming assignments and important updates from Substitute Services.

• Meet at least once a month with an assigned Substitute Services supervisor via video conferencing software, regardless of whether on assignment.

• Complete required professional learning tailored to individual needs throughout the year.

• Maintain active certifications.

• Substitutes must be highly qualified and certified to teach Math in Washington.

• Multiple state certifications are an advantage.

• Ability to obtain certification in additional states upon request.

• Ability to secure additional clearances as needed.

• A Bachelor’s degree or higher is required.

• Maintain a dedicated, distraction-free home working environment for all business activities.

• Must be available Monday through Friday during assigned school hours (typically 8:00 am to 4:00 pm in the school's time zone) for long-term assignments.

• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, are essential.

• Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment that demands significant flexibility, effective task prioritization, self-direction, and creativity.

• Understanding of IEP/504 plans and their implementation in a virtual setting is necessary.

• Strong attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills are required.

• A demonstrated commitment to student achievement is crucial.

• Strong technology skills (experience with learning management systems, Microsoft Office programs, and Google Apps is preferred).

• Reliable, high-speed internet access is mandatory.

• A computer equipped with Microsoft OS and Microsoft Office is required (PC preferred).

• A customer-focused approach and a proven track record as a team player are essential.

• May not provide care for others during normal school hours while on assignment; alternative care arrangements must be made.

• May not hold another job during normal school hours while on assignment.

• Complete mandatory orientation and training programs within 30 days of hire and at the beginning of each school year.
