This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.
• Certified Substitute Teachers will work from their secure and distraction-free home offices to provide virtual support for the learning program for students enrolled in Connections Academy schools nationwide.
• The Substitute Teacher will frequently consult via telephone, Internet, and various curriculum tools with students, Learning Coaches, and school personnel to ensure that each child successfully completes their instructional program.
• The Washington Secondary English Substitute Teacher will serve as the teacher of record at various Connections Academy schools during periods of short- or long-term absences or vacancies, typically ranging from 2 to 20 weeks, with an average assignment lasting between 8 to 12 weeks.
• During assignments, the Substitute Teacher must be online and accessible to students, parents, and school staff from Monday to Friday, between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm in the school's time zone, to: communicate regularly with parents, students, and other teachers to develop and update individualized learning plans and schedules, provide feedback on student work, suggest instructional strategies, monitor assignment completion, and verify student learning.
• Timely completion of grading, progress reports, and parent conferences as instructed by the school is required.
• The instructional program will be supported through a mix of synchronous and asynchronous web conferencing sessions (LiveLessons).
• The Substitute Teacher will assist students and parents with alternative instructional strategies and support daily assignments and projects.
• Keeping student records and data current, which includes cumulative files, online student and family information, attendance records, and student logs, is essential.
• Collaboration with counselors and special educators is necessary to ensure that individual student needs are met, with regular updates on student behavior and activities in the classroom.
• When not on assignment, the Substitute Teacher should actively check email to stay informed about upcoming assignments and important updates from Substitute Services.
• Monthly meetings with an assigned Substitute Services supervisor via video conferencing software are required, whether on or off assignment.
• Completion of necessary professional learning targeted at individual needs throughout the year is expected.
• Active certifications must be maintained.
• Substitutes must hold the necessary qualifications and certification to teach English in Washington.
• Having multiple state certifications is advantageous.
• Ability to obtain certification in other states as needed is required.
• Additional clearances may be requested as necessary.
• A Bachelor’s degree or higher is mandatory.
• A dedicated, distraction-free home working environment where all business activities can take place must be maintained.
• When on assignment, availability from Monday to Friday during designated school hours (typically 8:00 am to 4:00 pm in the school’s time zone) is essential for long-term assignments.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills are necessary.
• Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment requiring significant flexibility, effective task prioritization, self-direction, and creativity is needed.
• Understanding of IEP/504 plans and their implementation in a virtual setting is crucial.
• Strong attention to detail, along with excellent time management and organizational skills, is expected.
• A proven commitment to student achievement is essential.
• Strong technology skills, including experience with learning management systems, Microsoft Office programs, and Google Apps, are preferred.
• Reliable, high-speed internet access is required.
• A computer equipped with Microsoft OS and Microsoft Office is necessary (PC preferred).
• A customer-focused approach and a proven track record as a team player are important.
• Providing care for others during normal school hours while on assignment is not permitted; alternative care arrangements must be made.
• Employment in another job during normal school hours while on assignment is not allowed.
• Completion of required orientation and training programs within 30 days of hire and at the beginning of each school year is necessary.
