This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland.
• Prepare individual income tax returns (Form 1040), including intricate returns that involve various income sources, investments, pass-through entities, rental activities, and other complex tax matters for high-net-worth clients.
• Prepare complex multi-state individual income tax filings.
• Prepare and review returns with extensive Schedule C business activities and Schedule E income from rental real estate, partnerships, S corporations, estates, and trusts.
• Review Form 1040 returns completed by staff and provide feedback to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulations.
• Identify and resolve tax-related issues, missing information, IRS and state notices, as well as tax planning opportunities.
• Ensure the correct application of federal and state individual income tax laws.
• Offer technical guidance and support to staff during the return preparation process.
• Train and mentor staff on the preparation of Form 1040 returns, emphasizing best practices and firm standards.
• Provide constructive feedback aimed at enhancing staff accuracy, efficiency, and technical development.
• Prepare and review amended tax returns and extensions as necessary.
• Escalate complex technical issues to Managers and Partners as needed.
• Communicate with internal team members regarding outstanding items and requests for clarification.
• Uphold high standards for accuracy, documentation, and workflow efficiency.
• Support seasonal workload surges and meet firm deadlines.
• Comply with firm processes, checklists, and quality control protocols.
• Active CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) license is mandatory.
• 3 - 5+ years of experience in individual tax preparation and review within a public accounting setting, with a strong emphasis on Form 1040 engagements.
• Experience in preparing and reviewing multi-state individual income tax returns.
• Knowledge of Schedule C and Schedule E tax reporting.
• Experience working with high-net-worth individuals and handling complex individual tax engagements is preferred.
• Prior experience in reviewing returns and/or training or mentoring junior staff is preferred.
• Strong comprehension of federal and state individual income tax regulations.
• Familiarity with tax preparation software (preferably CCH Axcess).
• Experience with CCH AnswerConnect or similar tax research tools is preferred.
• Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-oriented environment.
