Scientific Project Manager – Biomedical Data Coordination

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Act as a key scientific and programmatic liaison among government entities, researchers, data managers, partner organizations, and internal scientific and technical teams.

• Assist the Principal Investigator and Program Manager in organizing project activities, timelines, deliverables, priorities, risks, dependencies, and action items across scientific, data quality, communications, and technical workstreams.

• Lead or facilitate regular meetings, scientific working groups, requirements-gathering sessions, and stakeholder discussions, documenting decisions, action items, and follow-up activities.

• Oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of data standards, metadata models, and data management strategies for exploratory, preclinical, translational, and related biomedical research data.

• Create and advocate for data management, access, and sharing practices that align with FAIR data principles, NIH expectations, and relevant public repository requirements.

• Convert scientific priorities and user needs into precise requirements and recommendations for data quality, informatics, software development, analytics, and AI-enabled tools.

• Facilitate technical assistance and collaboration between scientific subject matter experts and technical teams to support investigators, data managers, and other members of the program’s user community.

• Assist with scientific communications, outreach, and program activities, including annual meetings, conferences, webinars, presentations, websites, and materials for stakeholders.

• Collaborate with data quality and scientific staff to monitor data submission review activities, recurring issues, process improvement opportunities, and related documentation needs.

• Prepare and review contract status reports, progress updates, meeting summaries, and other program deliverables that convey project status, achievements, and upcoming priorities.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Master's degree in a life science, biomedical science, or a related scientific discipline; equivalent work experience may be considered.

• Experience supporting biomedical, translational, infectious disease, vaccine, preclinical research, or scientifically data-focused programs.

• Proven capability to facilitate scientific meetings, working groups, requirements-gathering sessions, and stakeholder discussions.

• Solid understanding of scientific research workflows, research documentation, data quality concepts, and biomedical or public health data environments.

• Ability to interpret scientific needs into data standards, data management processes, technical requirements, or program recommendations.

• Demonstrated success in coordinating complex projects, tracking action items and deliverables, maintaining documentation, and collaborating across scientific, technical, analytical, communications, and project management teams.

• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, capable of summarizing information clearly and professionally for diverse audiences.

• Strong organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and capacity to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

• Preferred: A PhD in a life or biomedical science discipline, especially in biology, microbiology, immunology, virology, infectious disease research, or a related field.

• Preferred: Previous experience with NIH, HHS, NIAID, or any other federal health agency.

• Preferred: Background in supporting a Data Coordinating Center or a large multi-center scientific research consortium.

• Preferred: Advanced subject-matter expertise in infectious disease, immunology, virology, vaccine development, translational science, or pre-clinical research.

• Preferred: Familiarity with biomedical data standards, data quality processes, research data management, FAIR data principles, and NIH data sharing expectations.

• Preferred: Experience in coordinating scientific communications, outreach activities, conferences, or stakeholder engagement initiatives.

• Preferred: Ability to provide scientific requirements or subject matter guidance for informatics, software, analytics, AI, or machine-learning projects.

• Preferred: Understanding of Agile practices within a software development or data management setting.
