This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.
• Collaborate with the editorial leadership of Journals and the APA Open Science and Methodology (OSM) Expert Panel to enhance the open science initiatives of APA Journals.
• Engage in OSM meetings and convert priorities into actionable communication and outreach strategies.
• Formulate and implement strategic plans to advocate for APA Journals’ open science practices (such as transparency, reproducibility, open data/materials, and related policies), ensuring consistent messaging across all channels and stakeholder groups.
• Design and sustain communications aimed at librarians, consortia, and researchers that clearly outline APA’s open science initiatives, participation pathways, and the benefits of APA as a nonprofit scholarly publisher setting standards.
• Create practical resources (including FAQs, toolkits, templates, and presentations) to assist authors, librarians, and consortia in understanding and adopting APA open science practices and Open Access options.
• Support APA Read & Publish and other Open Access agreements by collaborating with Sales/Business Development to enhance outreach, strengthen relationships with libraries/consortia (e.g., regular reporting), and ensure that agreements provide mutual benefits for customers and APA.
• Work alongside Author Marketing to strategize and implement community- and institution-based outreach efforts that raise awareness of open science initiatives and promote engagement from authors and editors.
• Partner with Library Marketing and Product Development to cultivate sustained community engagement focused on librarians and consortia (e.g., webinars, listserv/communication plans, and campaigns) that promotes APA’s open science priorities and highlights APA as a nonprofit standards-setting scholarly publisher.
• Monitor and synthesize advancements in Open Access and open science standards, funder policies, and competitor practices; share insights internally to guide messaging, positioning, and program priorities.
• Act as an internal advocate for librarians, consortia, and research communities by gathering stakeholder feedback and ensuring it is incorporated into communications, resources, and program development.
• Analyze market and customer data (including performance indicators and engagement metrics) to shape outreach strategies, identify opportunities for improved adoption, and support data-informed internal decision-making.
• Create and sustain annual communication and engagement plans for key library and consortia relationships, including segmented outreach calendars and coordinated touchpoints.
• Provide stakeholder support by developing clear guidance and user materials related to Open Access agreements and open science participation (including how-to resources and referral pathways for inquiries).
• Track and report on key performance indicators (e.g., awareness/engagement, resource usage, agreement-related activity, and community feedback) and utilize findings to refine strategies and demonstrate impact.
• Assist in sharing outcomes and performance reporting for Open Access and Read & Publish agreements (e.g., article output, usage/engagement, and other success measures) in collaboration with internal partners.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science, Psychology, Business Administration, or related fields.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in academic libraries, academic library consortia, or publishing marketing, preferably within a scholarly journal publishing environment.
• Required working knowledge of the Open Science movement in research and the Open Access journal publishing landscape.
• A strategic understanding of the challenges affecting scholarly publishing and communication, including evolving business models for scholarly content, Open Access, and Open Science is preferred.
• Excellent organizational skills are required.
• Relationship management skills are preferred.
• Proven experience in developing promotional campaigns and copywriting is preferred.
• Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
• Capability to deliver effective presentations to internal and external groups.
• Understanding of the diverse needs of stakeholders, including authors, librarians, university faculty, and the broader scholarly community.
