This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Provide engineering assistance throughout the construction, commissioning, and ongoing operation of large-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) facilities.
• Oversee instrumentation and controls commissioning tasks, which include system integration, validation, and performance testing prior to commercial operation.
• Direct SCADA operational support, encompassing system monitoring, troubleshooting, OT/IT coordination, cybersecurity considerations, and software and firmware updates.
• Manage and resolve issues related to substation RTAC and relay systems, addressing event logs, optimizing RTAC logic/code, and coordinating corrective actions.
• Create and sustain engineering processes, procedures, and technical standards for controls, SCADA, communications, and substation integration.
• Establish design criteria and Scopes of Work, ensuring compliance with applicable project, investor, utility, and owner requirements for EPC and engineering.
• Assist in the validation of engineering studies, plans, specifications, calculations, design documents, and performance evaluations.
• Collaborate with Performance Engineering and Asset Management to integrate remote data, reporting, and operational needs into EMS/SCADA systems.
• Suggest alternative technical solutions to meet project and business objectives.
• Aid in root-cause analysis relating to plant performance challenges.
• Contribute to systems and processes that ensure effective SCADA and controls integration from project development through to operations.
• Maintain a thorough understanding of grid code and associated safety-by-design standards, regulations, laws, and procedures.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in SCADA, instrumentation, and control systems engineering is required.
• Experience with Battery Energy Storage energy management systems (EMS) and grid-level SCADA configuration is preferred.
• A Bachelor’s degree in instrumentation, electrical engineering, or a related field is required.
• The degree must be from an ABET-accredited program.
• PE or equivalent certification is preferred.
• Familiarity with battery energy storage systems, substation design, and transmission-level protection and coordination is essential.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity and instrumentation and control standards set by IEEE, ISA, ANSI, and IEC organizations is necessary.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are a must.
• Ability to perform effectively under pressure and deliver clear executive-level reporting.
• Proven teamwork, initiative, problem-solving, and leadership abilities are required.
• Open to feedback and adaptable to change.
• Strong time management and analytical skills are essential.
• Must be currently authorized to work in the United States.
