This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
• Create, implement, and enhance safety performance metrics, thresholds, and goals to proactively identify, evaluate, and manage safety risks across both on-road and simulation-based data sources.
• Utilize statistically robust methods to assess safety performance, quantify uncertainties, and facilitate risk-informed decision-making in complex, real-world operational scenarios.
• Design automated, production-ready analysis workflows that enable ongoing safety monitoring, milestone assessments, incident responses, and safety performance evaluations.
• Ensure that performance monitoring methodologies accurately reflect real-world deployment exposure, changing operational contexts, and pertinent safety standards.
• Strike a balance between analytical precision and promptness to support critical, time-sensitive decisions.
• Assess data quality, uncertainty, bias, and limitations to guarantee that findings are statistically valid and beneficial for decision-making.
• Assist in data visualization, reporting, and communication strategies to help technical teams, safety stakeholders, and executives grasp insights, trade-offs, and constraints.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, product, verification and validation, simulation, metrics implementation, and safety teams to harmonize workflows and align on data-driven decisions.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation of analytical methods, assumptions, workflows, requirements, safety metrics, and outputs to support traceability, collaboration, and regulatory compliance.
• Ensure knowledge continuity through peer reviews, cross-training, shared analytical methodologies, and reproducible workflows that minimize single-point dependencies.
• Advanced degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a closely related field.
• Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of experience, or
• Master’s degree with 3+ years of experience, or
• PhD with 1+ years of experience.
• Demonstrated experience in mechanical engineering, vehicle engineering, autonomous systems, robotics, or physics-based applications.
• Familiarity with vehicle and sensor systems, cloud-based data technologies, data visualization, and statistical analytics.
• Strong foundation in applied statistics, safety analysis, risk assessment, or decision support systems.
• Experience handling complex, real-world datasets rather than solely clean or purely academic data.
• Experience with large-scale time-series data, vehicle data, sensor data, structured safety datasets, or other diverse technical data sources.
• Proficiency in programming languages, especially Python and SQL.
• Knowledge of agile development practices and continuous integration/deployment, including CI/CD workflows.
• Strong time management and organizational abilities with a knack for prioritizing tasks effectively.
• Exceptional problem-solving skills with the capacity to analyze complex issues and devise practical, innovative solutions.
• Ability to clearly communicate statistical and technical concepts to varied teams and stakeholders.
• Experience collaborating within distributed teams and across different time zones.
• A competitive compensation package that includes a bonus component and stock options.
• 100% paid medical, dental, and vision premiums for full-time employees.
• 401K plan with a 6% employer match.
• Flexibility in scheduling and generous paid vacation (available immediately upon start date).
