Russian Interpreter

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ukraine.

📋 Description

• Oral interpretation services: facilitating communication from Russian to English and vice versa during confidential interviews with individuals in custody, ICRC institutional dissemination, dialogues with authorities, and initiatives to foster family connections, which include delivering Red Cross messages, family tracing, and visits to detainees' families.

• Written translation tasks: converting Russian language materials (such as newspaper articles, correspondence, etc.) into written English.

• Analysis and reporting as necessary: conducting assessments of detention conditions, security issues, and other matters pertinent to the ICRC's mandate.

• May be requested to assist in other protection-related activities as needed.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficient command of English (C1) is essential.

• Proficient command of Russian (C1) is essential.

• Knowledge of Ukrainian (B2) is highly advantageous.

• Proficiency in additional ICRC operational languages (French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Portuguese) is a significant asset.

• Minimum of 2 years of professional experience.

• Previous experience as an interpreter or translator is beneficial.

• Strong motivation for humanitarian work.

• Ability to work under pressure in potentially hazardous environments.

• Open-mindedness and adaptability are crucial.

• A university degree in interpretation or translation is advantageous.
