This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.
• Analyze academic literature, technical data, expert presentations, and policy documents within targeted research domains, summarizing key insights with clear logical frameworks.
• Assess the effectiveness, safety, and practical applicability of technologies and interventions aimed at minimizing airborne pathogen transmission in constructed environments.
• Convert research outcomes into actionable program strategies and grant proposals with well-defined theories of change.
• Establish enduring professional relationships with domain experts across relevant sectors (often via semi-structured interviews), including researchers, companies, key opinion leaders, and other entities, to explore target areas and validate Blueprint's concepts.
• Assist in creating public-facing materials such as articles, presentations, and Blueprints.
• Offer technical guidance to program teams and supporting departments.
• Present at conferences and workshops, gather feedback on our initiatives, and foster collaborative partnerships.
• Contribute to additional Built Environment programs as capacity and expertise permit.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
• A proven background that includes both research-oriented and implementation-focused work. This position is suited for an individual who can explore new areas and translate that learning into actionable plans.
• Exceptional research abilities, with the readiness to analyze a diverse range of methods and results from various technical disciplines.
• Competence in quantitative reasoning under uncertain conditions, such as Fermi estimation.
• Strong networking, engagement, and communication skills, both internally and externally; this ability is valued as highly as research expertise.
• The capability to manage moderately scoped projects with minimal supervision and to devise your own work plan when faced with ambiguously defined problems.
• Proficiency in utilizing emerging AI tools to enhance workflows and boost productivity throughout the role.
• A relevant technical background, evidenced by advanced academic qualifications or prior work experience.
• Comprehensive familiarity with one or more of the following fields: air filtration research, HVAC systems and controls, air cleaning or treatment technologies, aerosol science, environmental engineering, epidemiology, or research on airborne infectious diseases. (Preferred)
• Experience in local, state, or federal emergency management or emergency response. (Preferred)
• Previous involvement in supporting Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) style organizations through systems engineering and technical assistance (SETA), working in scientific or engineering consulting, or acting as a technical subject-matter expert in the industry. (Preferred)
