This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa, +2 more countries.
• Perform comprehensive policy and systems research within JETP frameworks.
• Identify key stakeholders and assess documentation related to Senegal’s just energy transition.
• Assist in stakeholder engagement and the dissemination of research findings pertaining to South Africa or Indonesia.
• Contribute to a comparative analysis involving South Africa, Indonesia, and Senegal.
• Provide support for COP31/32, national dialogues, and associated convening activities.
• Design or facilitate various convenings, dialogues, and engagement formats.
• Produce clear written deliverables suitable for funders, policymakers, and the public.
• Offer research, strategic, or engagement support as specific consultancy needs arise.
• Collaborate with IHRB’s Head of Climate & Just Transitions Programme.
• Complete time-sensitive consultancy tasks by 30 April 2027.
• In-depth knowledge of the energy systems, transition governance, and political economy in Senegal, Indonesia, and/or South Africa.
• Comprehensive understanding of business and human rights, along with responsible business frameworks and their incentives/disincentives.
• Strong grasp of distributive justice approaches in energy transitions.
• Excellent analytical and writing abilities, capable of converting complex information into accessible formats for funders, policymakers, and the public.
• Proficiency in relevant languages for the specific context, especially Bahasa Indonesia and French.
• Strong command of written English.
• Capability to work autonomously within a small, globally distributed team.
• Proven ability to meet deadlines reliably, even under tight schedules.
• Demonstrated history of independent research.
• Experience in engaging with stakeholders from business, finance, government, and civil society.
• Background in creating knowledge products within a similar policy environment.
• Candidates from outside South Africa, Indonesia, or Senegal should possess substantial relevant career experience, networks, and foundational language skills from one or more of those countries.
• Interested candidates must submit a brief note of under 500 words, a CV, and their preferred day rate.
• Consultancy agreement governed by UK law.
• Day rate consultancy compensation, negotiated and confirmed for each engagement.
