This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alaska, +8 more states.
• Lead and actively engage in comprehensive research projects utilizing multimodal physiological and behavioral data — including wearable time-series signals, continuous biomarkers (e.g., CGM), and biological samples (e.g., blood biomarkers) — from hypothesis formulation through analysis to dissemination.
• Design robust studies and analyses to tackle challenging scientific inquiries that can advance the field, encompassing sleep and circadian biology, women's health, cardiometabolic function, and physical activity.
• Develop and implement sophisticated statistical and computational models (e.g., mixed-effects models, time-series techniques, ML/AI methodologies) to address significant health questions using real-world, complex data.
• Convert evidence and research findings into actionable product solutions, assisting partners in understanding the implications of findings for members and prospective features.
• Establish and nurture strong collaborative relationships across Health Science, Data Science, and Product teams.
• Contribute to external scientific dissemination through abstracts, posters, and peer-reviewed publications, enhancing Oura's scientific credibility and visibility.
• Assist in literature synthesis and contextualize findings within existing evidence to refine research narratives and identify new avenues for exploration.
• A PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g., bioengineering, data science, biostatistics, neuroscience, biomedical engineering, computer science, exercise science, women's health, or digital health), combined with an undergraduate degree in a quantitative or computational field — such as computer science, data science, engineering, or biostatistics — at the BS level or higher.
• A strong record of first-authored publications in peer-reviewed journals — especially work that introduces novel concepts, methods, or algorithms — or patent applications, showcasing the ability to independently drive innovation from inception to completion.
• Extensive hands-on experience with statistical modeling and applied ML in Python or R, particularly with time-series or physiological data, and predictive analytics — such as forecasting models, classification pipelines, or risk stratification related to health outcomes.
• Proficiency in advanced statistical methods — mixed-effects models, survival analysis, Bayesian inference, or equivalent — and comfort in developing models that remain robust under real-world complexities.
• Demonstrated interest and domain expertise in at least one of our focal areas: sleep & circadian biology, women's reproductive health, cardiometabolic health, movement and physical activity, longevity, neuroendocrinology, or immune function.
• Experience with wearable or sensor-based data, digital health platforms, or similar applied data environments.
• Strong product intuition — understanding that rigorous science and practical impact are complementary, not opposing, and enjoying the relationships that facilitate both.
• Creative, hypothesis-driven mindset: the ability to formulate new questions, design innovative analyses, and thrive in ambiguous, exploratory R&D settings.
• Excellent scientific communication skills — capable of synthesizing results and clearly articulating methods, assumptions, and limitations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Competitive salary and equity packages
• Health, dental, vision insurance, and mental health resources
• An Oura Ring of your own plus employee discounts for friends & family
• 20 days of paid time off in addition to 13 paid holidays and 8 days of flexible wellness time off
• Paid sick leave and parental leave
