This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Develop and assess protective relay settings for transmission, distribution, substations, and renewable energy facilities.
• Conduct relay coordination studies, short circuit analyses, and fault assessments for utility and industrial power systems.
• Assist in the design, execution, and evaluation of protection schemes.
• Examine relay operations and provide support in troubleshooting protection system issues.
• Create relay settings files, technical calculations, coordination reports, and relevant engineering documentation.
• Review one-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, relay logic diagrams, and protection and control drawings to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Employ modeling and analysis software such as ETAP, ASPEN, SKM, CAPE, or equivalent tools to aid engineering studies and relay coordination.
• Collaborate with utilities, project managers, field staff, and multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout the project lifecycle.
• Facilitate commissioning, testing, and energization activities for substations and power system equipment.
• Keep documentation organized and ensure adherence to relevant industry standards, utility requirements, and client specifications.
• Support project timelines, budgets, and deliverables while ensuring quality work and client satisfaction.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a related field is required.
• A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
• Over 5 years of relevant experience in relay settings, protection and control engineering, or power systems engineering.
• Professional Engineering (PE) license in the U.S. or P.Eng. in Canada (or the ability to obtain one).
• In-depth understanding of power system protection principles and relay coordination practices.
• Hands-on experience and familiarity with Distance Relays, Differential Relays, and Overcurrent Relays.
• Experience in developing relay settings for transmission and distribution systems.
• Knowledge of IEEE, NERC, and applicable utility protection standards.
• Proficiency in using modeling and power system analysis tools such as ETAP, ASPEN, SKM, or similar software.
• Capability to perform coordination studies, fault analysis, and troubleshoot protection systems.
• Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, relay logic diagrams, and wiring drawings.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, technical writing, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
• Self-motivated with the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
