
Reinsurance Treaty Catastrophe Modeler

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Conduct analysis and modeling of intricate reinsurance treaties, including proportional, non-proportional, and retrocessional agreements, utilizing industry-standard catastrophe models.
• Prepare, verify, and ensure quality of exposure data for inputs into catastrophe models.
• Implement catastrophe models, analyze exceedance probability curves, average annual loss, and return periods, while pinpointing key risk drivers.
• Provide contributions to risk evaluations and insights for reinsurance portfolio management and underwriting processes.
• Design and assess customized scenarios for specific events or changes in exposure.
• Engage in the validation and enhancement of catastrophe models, focusing on parameterization and calibration.
• Compile reports that summarize model outcomes and convey findings to underwriters, management, and stakeholders.
• Collaborate with underwriters, actuaries, and other departments to conduct thorough risk assessments.
• Investigate industry trends, modeling methodologies, and emerging risks related to natural catastrophes.
• Take part in projects that shape and define the company's perspective on risks associated with natural catastrophe events.
• Assist in the reinsurance placement and renewal processes while partnering with the actuarial pricing team.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a quantitative field such as Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or a related area.
• At least 5 years of experience in catastrophe modeling, particularly within the reinsurance sector.
• Proficiency in at least one major catastrophe modeling platform (Verisk Touchstone, RMS RiskLink, CoreLogic RQE).
• Strong grasp of reinsurance principles, treaty structures, and underwriting practices.
• Solid knowledge of statistical concepts, including probability distributions, return periods, and extreme value theory.
• Experience in data manipulation and analysis using software such as SQL, R, or Python.
• Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills (both written and verbal).
• Capability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
• Familiarity with stochastic modeling tools like MetaRisk or ReMetrica is preferred.
• Knowledge of scripting or programming languages (e.g., Python, VBA) is an advantage.
• Experience in database management is a plus.
