
Regional Lead β Rail Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.
β’ Provide leadership for railroad projects within the designated region and support strategic growth efforts.
β’ Oversee the planning, design, coordination, and execution of industry tracks, terminals, spurs, mainlines, yards, and sidings.
β’ Work in collaboration with railroad organizations on DOT and municipal public agency projects involving at-grade crossings, grade-separated structures, and utility crossings.
β’ Act as a senior technical resource and consultant for rail design, grading, drainage, and related infrastructure.
β’ Develop and enhance relationships with clients, railroad operators, public agencies, and industry collaborators.
β’ Assist in business development through client interactions, proposal creation, project pursuits, industry associations, and conferences.
β’ Mentor and provide technical support to engineers, designers, and junior staff across various offices and project teams.
β’ Collaborate with Project Managers and regional leadership on staffing, resource allocation, and operational efficiency.
β’ Liaise with federal, state, and local agencies across multiple states to ensure compliance with regulations and railroad standards.
β’ Direct the implementation and enforcement of QA/QC throughout project development and delivery.
β’ Support the development and standardization of rail engineering, coordination, design, and project delivery methodologies.
β’ Travel occasionally for client meetings, project site inspections, regional coordination, and industry functions.
β’ Perform additional duties as required.
β’ Bachelorβs degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
β’ At least 10 years of relevant experience in rail, transit, railroad infrastructure, and transportation/land development engineering projects.
β’ A Professional Engineer (PE) license is mandatory.
β’ Proven experience in leading multidisciplinary rail engineering projects and managing client relationships.
β’ Strong knowledge of design standards for track, at-grade railroad crossings, grade-separated structures, and utility crossings.
β’ Experience in mentoring technical staff and leading engineering teams across multiple projects or offices is preferred.
β’ Familiarity with CAD platforms and standard engineering software applications.
β’ Excellent business development, communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
β’ Ability to effectively collaborate with railroad personnel, clients, agencies, contractors, and internal teams.
β’ Capability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
β’ Willingness to travel regionally as necessary to support project delivery and client engagement.
