This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kansas, +1 more state.
• Provide leadership within the region for railroad projects and assist in strategic growth initiatives within the designated area.
• Oversee the planning, design, coordination, and execution of rail projects such as industry tracks, terminals, spurs, mainlines, yards, and sidings.
• Collaborate with railroad companies on projects involving the Department of Transportation and municipal public agencies concerning at-grade crossings, grade-separated structures, and utility crossings.
• Act as a senior technical resource and advisor in rail design, grading, drainage, and associated infrastructure.
• Develop and enhance relationships with clients, railroad operators, public agencies, and industry stakeholders.
• Assist in business development through client interactions, proposal creation, project pursuits, participation in industry organizations, and conferences.
• Mentor, lead, and provide technical direction to engineers, designers, and junior personnel across various offices and project teams.
• Work in conjunction with Project Managers and regional leadership on staffing, resource allocation, and operational efficiency.
• Liaise with federal, state, and local agencies across multiple states to ensure regulatory compliance and adherence to railroad standards.
• Direct the implementation and enforcement of QA/QC processes throughout the stages of project development and delivery.
• Aid in the development and standardization of rail engineering practices, design methodologies, and project delivery procedures.
• Travel occasionally for client meetings, project site inspections, regional coordination, and participation in industry events.
• Carry out additional responsibilities as required.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• At least 10 years of pertinent experience in rail, transit, railroad infrastructure, and transportation/land development engineering projects.
• A Professional Engineer (PE) license is mandatory.
• Proven experience in leading multidisciplinary rail engineering projects and managing client relationships.
• Strong knowledge of design standards for track, at-grade railroad crossings, grade-separated structures, and utility crossings.
• Experience in mentoring technical staff and leading engineering teams across various projects or offices is preferred.
• Familiarity with CAD platforms and standard engineering software applications.
• Excellent business development, communication, leadership, and organizational abilities.
• Capacity to effectively collaborate with railroad personnel, clients, agencies, contractors, and internal teams.
• Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team environment.
• Willingness to travel regionally as required to facilitate project delivery and client engagement.
