
Regional Lead β Rail Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.
β’ Lead regional initiatives for railroad projects and contribute to strategic growth efforts within the designated area.
β’ Oversee the planning, design, coordination, and execution of industry tracks, terminals, spurs, mainlines, yards, and sidings.
β’ Collaborate with railroad companies on projects involving at-grade crossings, grade-separated structures, and utility crossings with DOT and municipal public agencies.
β’ Act as a senior technical resource and consultant for rail design, grading, drainage, and related infrastructure.
β’ Foster and enhance relationships with clients, railroad operators, public agencies, and industry partners.
β’ Assist in business development through client engagement, proposal formulation, project pursuits, industry organizations, and conferences.
β’ Guide and mentor engineers, designers, and junior staff across various offices and project teams.
β’ Work together on staffing strategies, resource management, and operational efficiency.
β’ Coordinate with federal, state, and local agencies across multiple states to ensure compliance with regulations and railroad standards.
β’ Direct the implementation and enforcement of QA/QC throughout the project development and delivery phases.
β’ Create and standardize practices for rail engineering, coordination, design, and project delivery.
β’ Travel occasionally for client meetings, project site inspections, regional coordination, and industry events.
β’ Execute additional duties as required.
β’ Bachelorβs degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
β’ At least 10 years of relevant experience in rail, transit, railroad infrastructure, and transportation/land development engineering projects.
β’ A Professional Engineer (PE) license is mandatory.
β’ Proven experience in leading multidisciplinary rail engineering projects and managing client relationships.
β’ Solid understanding of design standards for tracks, at-grade railroad crossings, grade-separated structures, and utility crossings.
β’ Preferred experience in mentoring technical staff and leading engineering teams across various projects or offices.
β’ Familiarity with CAD platforms and standard engineering software applications.
β’ Excellent business development, communication, leadership, and organizational abilities.
β’ Capacity to effectively collaborate with railroad staff, clients, agencies, contractors, and internal teams.
β’ Ability to work autonomously while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
β’ Willingness to travel regionally as required to support project delivery and client engagement.
