Recycling Processing Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Direct the recycling processing initiatives assigned to you by integrating input from service providers and facilities, crafting clear recommendations, and driving follow-up actions to maintain focus on priorities.

• Manage ongoing engagement and relationship development with service providers, including MRF operators, transfer station managers, and downstream processing partners.

• Organize, lead, and document interviews with service providers and facility stakeholders, as well as virtual meetings and onsite visits.

• Supervise the collection, validation, and structuring of operational data with recycling service providers, encompassing inbound material streams, throughput, contamination rates, recovery rates, residue management, and staffing levels.

• Lead the involvement of assigned service providers in reimbursement activities by identifying information requirements, ensuring completeness and accuracy, and managing necessary follow-up actions.

• Maintain precise records, tracking tools, and documentation to facilitate reporting and reimbursement processes.

• Develop recommendations based on service provider feedback, operational limitations, potential risks, and avenues for improvement for leadership evaluation and decision-making.

• Contribute to the input for recycling operations in service provider contracts to influence terms, service standards, and performance expectations.

• Oversee coordination between internal departments at CAA and recycling service providers throughout contract negotiations, including tracking revisions, inquiries, and outstanding issues until resolved.

• Ensure that contract language accurately reflects facility realities such as throughput, contamination, material quality, residue management, and staffing limitations.

• Monitor contract status, negotiation milestones, and compliance documentation in collaboration with internal teams.

• Assess compliance of recycling service providers with contracted service standards by identifying operational risks, data deficiencies, and performance issues, while driving necessary corrective actions.

• Take ownership of performance monitoring for assigned providers by compiling essential metrics, recognizing trends and risks, and proposing corrective measures.

• Facilitate coordination with cross-functional teams to ensure a consistent flow of information, aligned messaging, prompt issue resolution, and execution of commitments.

• Manage special projects, which may include pilot documentation, market research, and enhancements to internal processes related to processing capacity and end-market development as needed.

• Perform other job-related responsibilities as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, Environmental Studies, or a related field pertinent to recycling processing, industrial operations, or material flow systems.

• A minimum of five years of relevant experience in recycling processing, solid waste management, manufacturing, or industrial operations, including data analysis or program administration.

• Background in or collaboration with equipment-intensive processing environments, such as material recovery facilities (MRFs), transfer stations, manufacturing facilities, or similar industrial operations, with a strong understanding of facility equipment, process flow, and operational constraints.

• Willingness to travel for facility visits and meetings.
