This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Develop and oversee the quality engineering strategy and roadmap for our products.
• Remain actively involved: personally create automated tests, construct framework components, and review code with the team (approximately half of your time).
• Choose the test automation tools and frameworks, and establish the standards for squads to adhere to.
• Incorporate automated testing into our CI/CD pipelines and collaborate with DevOps to ensure stable and repeatable deployments.
• Establish quality gates: determine what prevents a merge and what inhibits a release, in alignment with engineering leadership and risk management.
• Implement a risk-based testing approach to ensure efforts are focused where they offer the most protection for clients.
• Advocate for testing at lower levels (API before UI), reduce the incidence of flaky tests, and empower squads so the practice does not rely on any individual.
• Recruit, mentor, and develop a team of automation engineers, while enhancing testing discipline across product squads.
• Manage quality metrics and maintain a dashboard that leadership can rely on, providing objective indicators for go/no-go release decisions.
• Assess and integrate AI-assisted testing tools (such as test generation, self-healing tests, defect triage, and agentic testing) through a practical, hybrid approach, ensuring a human-in-the-loop standard so that AI-generated tests and code are reviewed rather than blindly trusted.
• Over 7 years of experience in software quality or engineering, including more than 3 years in leadership roles with a focus on developing engineers.
• Proven experience in establishing or significantly enhancing a test automation practice.
• Current, practical coding skills: capable of building framework components and writing automated tests independently, with a desire to continue doing so in this role.
• Strong technical judgement regarding automation frameworks, CI/CD, and test architecture, supported by recent hands-on experience.
• Proficiency with modern automation tools (such as Playwright, Cypress, Selenium) and CI/CD systems (including GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI).
• Experience in defining quality metrics and utilizing them to influence release decisions.
• Effective communicator who can articulate quality risks in a manner that leadership and product teams can act upon.
• Practical understanding of how AI is transforming testing, with sound judgement on its benefits and limitations. Experience in evaluating or adopting AI-assisted QA tools or a credible plan to do so.
• Familiarity with testing AI or LLM features (such as evaluation harnesses, golden datasets, guardrails, and bias and accuracy checks), or the ability to quickly gain this knowledge.
• Remote-first work environment, with flexible hours available across North America, and hub offices located in Charlottetown & Atlanta.
• Comprehensive compensation package that evolves with your career.
• MacBook plus $800 to help create your ideal home workspace.
• Health, dental, vision, and life insurance starting from day one.
• Generous paid time off (PTO) and unlimited sick leave.
• RRSP (Canada) and 401k (US) matching programs.
• Annual development fund of $2,500, tuition assistance, and a Book Bounty program.
• Annual company events and team offsites that foster team bonding.
