This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Mexico.
• Conduct technical evaluations that support quality assurance initiatives related to the characterization, packaging, transportation, and disposal of radioactive mixed waste.
• Utilize specialist technical knowledge in characterization methods, including Non-Destructive Assay, Visual Examination, and/or Flammable Gas Analysis.
• Evaluate the efficacy of activities linked to waste characterization and the associated requirements of the radioactive mixed waste program.
• Review technical processes, documentation, and adherence to applicable regulations.
• Leverage expert-level understanding of nuclear facilities, waste characterization, hazardous materials, engineering, chemistry, industrial safety, nuclear safety, radioactive packaging and transportation, or related fields.
• Use relevant regulations, procedures, and program documentation to carry out assigned tasks during CBFO program area audits.
• Coordinate technical insights, assessment observations, and quality-related findings to enhance program performance, compliance, and continuous improvement.
• A minimum of 15 years of directly relevant experience; or a Bachelor’s degree accompanied by 10 years of relevant experience; or a Master’s degree with five years of relevant experience in the specific discipline or subject matter area required by the project.
• Proven experience in assessing activities related to radioactive mixed waste characterization, packaging, transportation, and disposal.
• Expert-level knowledge in nuclear facilities, waste characterization, hazardous materials, engineering, chemistry, industrial safety, nuclear safety, radioactive packaging and transportation, or similar fields.
• Familiarity with applicable regulations concerning the relevant expert discipline.
• Technical experience with Non-Destructive Assay, Visual Examination, and/or Flammable Gas Analysis.
• Capability to gain a working knowledge of CBFO QAPD, WIPPWAP, WIPP-WAC, and TRAMPAC within 90 days of employment.
• Willingness to travel approximately once a month.
• US citizenship is required due to government contract and/or clearance requirements.
• Preferred qualifications include experience with CBFO program area audits or WIPP-related work, knowledge of DOE quality assurance expectations, familiarity with nuclear facility environments, and strong technical communication and documentation skills.
