QA Lead

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ireland.

📋 Description

• Oversee and guide the three Quality Engineers reporting to you, encompassing goal setting, conducting performance evaluations, coaching, and reviewing work.

• Engage in feature specification discussions prior to coding, addressing edge cases, potential failure modes, and the testability of acceptance criteria.

• Develop and maintain shared testing skills, methodologies, and guidelines for coding agents.

• Assess test quality through mutation testing techniques.

• Evaluate tests within pull requests and provide mentorship to developers regarding test effectiveness.

• Incorporate lessons learned from overlooked issues back into shared skills, standards, and methodologies.

• Conduct exploratory testing and generate any necessary tests, including end-to-end processes or test data.

• Assist in embedding performance, security, and accessibility considerations into quality practices.

• Validate accessibility against the live shared configuration.

• Utilize traces, benchmarks, reproduction scripts, mutation scores, flake rates, and production escapes to inform decision-making.

• Detect pipeline and architectural failures and contribute to comprehensive solutions.

• Collaborate with product managers and engineers within cross-functional teams.

• Advocate for the user perspective and identify potential failure modes before development commences.

• Guide engineers in Test-Driven Development (TDD) and code review best practices.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of software testing experience within a commercial setting.

• At least 3 years of experience serving as a technical lead within QA teams.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

• Proven leadership experience, including managing team performance.

• Background in architectural and pipeline design to avert systemic failures.

• Practical experience in utilizing agentic tools and workflows.

• Familiarity with prompt engineering and testing frameworks based on Large Language Models (LLMs).

• Strong skills in performance, security, and accessibility testing.

• Experience with contemporary CI/CD platforms and best practices in DevOps.

• Proficient in JIRA or similar project management software.

• Expertise in automation tools such as Cypress, Stryker, Allure, and PactumJS.

• Formal experience in management roles, including setting goals, coaching, and conducting performance reviews.

• Skilled in crafting and refining instructions for AI coding agents.

• Ability to leverage mutation testing to ensure that generated suites deliver meaningful coverage.

• Experience with shift-left strategies, TDD, code review best practices, and collaborative environments.
