
Project Manager – On-Site Data Collection, User Studies

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +2 more states.
• Oversee the complete delivery process of on-site data collection projects that support user studies (such as usability tests, field research, intercepts, and diary studies with in-person components).
• Develop and maintain comprehensive project plans and timelines (including workback plans, run-of-show agendas, staffing schedules, milestones, and dependencies) to guarantee timely execution.
• Take ownership of budget management: forecasting, tracking expenditures against the plan, managing vendors and contractors, controlling project scope, and documenting change requests.
• Create and present client-facing materials: kickoffs, weekly status updates, risk/issue reviews, and final project summaries; simplify complex information into understandable narratives.
• Organize on-site logistics: ensure site readiness, manage staffing, arrange equipment/materials, oversee shipping, handle access/security requirements, manage participant flow, and prepare contingency plans.
• Lead and assist project team members (including internal staff, contractors, and vendors): set clear expectations, delegate tasks, monitor deliverables, eliminate obstacles, provide feedback, and ensure accountability.
• Guarantee data quality and adherence to study requirements (including consent, privacy/PII handling, and documentation standards).
• Keep thorough project documentation and reporting (such as status reports, action logs, risk registers, budget trackers, and timeline updates).
• Proactively identify risks and implement mitigation strategies (such as no-shows, site constraints, equipment failures, and vendor delays), while escalating issues with clear options and recommendations.
• At least 3 years of project management experience in on-site data collection, research operations, and/or execution of user studies.
• Proven skills in: time management, budget oversight, client-facing presentations, attention to detail, and team member supervision.
• Experience in coordinating vendors, contractors, and field teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with effective stakeholder management abilities.
• Ability to operate independently in a remote work setting.
• A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Business Management, Economics, Computer Science, or equivalent relevant experience.
