Project Environmental Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Our Environmental division is actively seeking to expand our team by adding **Project Environmental Manager(s)**.

• Reporting to the Corporate Environmental Manager, we are on the lookout for an experienced environmental professional who is enthusiastic about field-based project delivery and possesses robust leadership skills to provide both on-site and off-site guidance across all environmental facets of large powerline construction projects throughout Canada. This role will lead a diverse team of environmental experts, collaborating closely with regulatory authorities, Indigenous communities, and clients to ensure compliance, manage environmental risks, and uphold project timelines.

• *Please be aware: This position is field-based and requires travel to project locations across Canada. The successful candidate will work on-site on a rotational basis, which may fluctuate according to project needs.*

• **Duties and Responsibilities**

• - Review and analyze environmental requirements and relevant legislation as specified in project documents and permits, including Project EMS, CEMP, and contracts; offer recommendations to the field environmental team and Construction Managers.

• - Guide and mentor a multidisciplinary environmental team, ensuring the quality of their work aligns with EMS compliance.

• - Prepare and submit precise, timely, and comprehensive environmental deliverables in accordance with Valard's Environmental Management System (EMS) as well as project and regulatory standards.

• - Advocate for the incorporation of environmental requirements into operational practices and management systems on-site, encompassing regulatory submissions, management plans, and monitoring programs.

• - Facilitate proactive environmental planning in collaboration with Valard's Environment, Right-of-Way, and Construction teams; coordinate with operational and functional departments to bolster effective environmental management.

• - Spearhead and engage in regulatory and internal audits, inspections, and investigations.

• - Manage interactions and foster relationships with provincial and federal government agencies, Indigenous groups, and local communities of interest regarding assigned projects.

• - Oversee environmental risks and respond to/manage environmental incidents as necessary; ensure construction teams maintain ongoing environmental awareness.

• - Administer the environmental budget and promote the continuous enhancement of Valard's Environmental Management System.

⛳️ Requirements

• - Post-Secondary Diploma or Degree in Biology or a related field (e.g., Environmental Sciences or Forestry).

• - A minimum of 6 years of experience showcasing leadership and oversight in an industrial environment.

• - Experience in managing environmental field personnel across multidisciplinary teams.

• - Proven understanding of federal and provincial regulations, permitting, and environmental guidelines.

• - Technical expertise in environmental management practices concerning water, wildlife (fish, mammals, herptiles, vegetation), and waste management.

• - Demonstrated capability to draft wildlife-specific mitigation plans.

• - Significant experience with Environmental Management Systems and the management and reporting of environmental data.

• - A valid driver's license and a satisfactory Driver's Abstract.

• **Preferred Skills / Qualifications**

• - Experience working on large-scale industrial infrastructure projects in Canada.

• - Experience engaging with Indigenous groups and regulatory agencies within a project delivery context.

• - Experience with wildlife mitigations on Canadian projects.
