Project Engineer II – Mechanical, Electrical

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Report directly to the Regional Engineering Manager.

• Provide innovative engineering solutions to production process challenges through modifications and enhancements of equipment and subcomponents, or by designing and developing new products.

• Take the lead on projects and execute equipment or process enhancements within the designated region.

• Oversee the development and execution of multiple concurrent medium-complexity projects, each valued at over $2M, which includes managing scope, requirements, schedules, cost estimates, budgets, and resources.

• Organize technical project activities to comply with safety, regulatory, and policy standards.

• Create and design basic mechanical layouts for new products and manufacturing processes.

• Propose enhancements to current equipment and processes.

• Define and draft technical specifications for asset and service procurement.

• Develop project documentation and handover packages.

• Enhance manufacturing processes, encompassing process control, setup, changeover, automation, die development, equipment selection, and lean workflow improvements.

• Collaborate with EH&S resources to determine and enforce equipment safety standards, risks, and procedures.

• Assist in safety upgrades across the plant network and advocate for PPE and safe working practices.

• Coordinate with both internal and external stakeholders and manage project execution in alignment with established scope.

• Offer technical guidance to plant maintenance teams regarding equipment installation, troubleshooting, process control, and repairs.

• Travel frequently and work at facilities with minimal supervision to develop and implement improvement plans.

• Carry out additional duties as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• Generally requires a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, preferably Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering.

• 5-7+ years of Project Engineering experience in a manufacturing setting, with practical knowledge in mechanical and electrical engineering.

• Proficient in mechanical engineering concepts and their application, including design of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment and components.

• Hands-on experience in setup, troubleshooting, changeover, automation, and die optimization.

• Background in new product development, design, trials, and material selection.

• Basic electrical knowledge related to the control of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.

• Experience in leading medium-complexity projects.

• Proven ability to develop detailed plans aimed at enhancing plant reliability, robustness, and profitability.

• Capability to comprehend and adhere to electrical diagrams.

• Understanding of electrical components and instrumentation.

• Ability to follow control and programming logic for manufacturing processes.

• Basic knowledge of electrical codes.

• Familiarity with OSHA regulations, compliance, and industrial safety protocols.

• Understanding of financial aspects related to ROI and NPV.

• Proficient in AutoCAD 2D and 3D.

• Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications, MS Project, and Smartsheet.

• Significant travel required.

• Spanish proficiency is an advantage.

• Knowledge of electrical engineering related to machine control is beneficial.

• Experience with basic power and control circuits is advantageous.

• Familiarity with configuring and programming PLCs, motor controls, and electrical protection is a plus.

• Knowledge of plastic blow molding and injection molding processes and equipment is an asset.

• Understanding of mold and die design is an advantage.

• Experience in machine PLC programming and process control setup is beneficial.

• Electromechanical troubleshooting experience is a plus.
