This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Act as the main EHS contact for Canadian BESS projects, particularly focusing on project activities in Ontario.

• Offer practical EHS guidance and support to project teams, ensuring adherence to relevant federal, provincial, and local regulations, along with company standards.

• Assess and contribute to project-specific EHS plans, risk evaluations, method statements, job hazard and job safety analyses, safe work procedures, emergency response strategies, and contractor safety documentation.

• Perform site inspections, audits, observations, and toolbox discussions to enhance safe work practices, pinpoint areas of risk, and promote workforce involvement.

• Assist in incident and near-miss investigations, root cause analysis, and the creation and execution of corrective and preventive measures.

• Collaborate with Project Implementation, Engineering, and Service teams to integrate safety into the design, construction, commissioning, and operation of BESS installations.

• Assess EHS performance of contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers, and aid in managing identified risks, corrective actions, and compliance issues.

• Foster a positive EHS culture throughout the organization as well as its contractor and supplier network.

• Support environmental compliance initiatives, including spill prevention and response, waste management practices, and site environmental controls, where applicable.

• Aid in the development and ongoing enhancement of EHS programs, standards, procedures, and global best practices.


⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of five years of progressive EHS experience in energy, construction, utilities, industrial services, or another complex project-oriented environment.

• Educational qualifications or recognized training in occupational health and safety, environmental management, engineering, construction management, or a related field.

• Strong understanding of Ontario occupational health and safety laws, including those applicable to construction projects, with the ability to interpret and apply these regulations across other Canadian jurisdictions.

• A recognized health and safety certification or designation is preferred, such as CRSP, CRST, NCSO, QHSO, NEBOSH, or a comparable Canadian or international qualification.

• Experience in reviewing project EHS plans, hazard assessments, job hazard or job safety analyses, safe work procedures, method statements, and contractor safety documentation.

• Proven experience in conducting site inspections and audits and evaluating the EHS performance of contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers.

• Experience in supporting incident investigations, root cause analysis, and developing corrective and preventive action plans.

• Experience in battery energy storage, renewable energy, electrical infrastructure, or power generation environments is considered an asset.

• Willingness and capability to travel to project sites across Canada as needed.
