Project Development Director

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Oversee the comprehensive development of utility-scale energy storage and generation initiatives, spanning from initial assessment/acquisition through contracting and achieving Ready-to-Build (RTB) status.

• Coordinate with third-party developers, consultants, and internal cross-functional teams to progress development workstreams, ensure readiness at each stage-gate, and facilitate key decision-making.

• Manage development budgets, timelines, critical path execution, risk assessment, and provide reports to leadership and investment stakeholders.

• Obtain and oversee essential project agreements and permits, which include land control, environmental/community engagement, and local approvals with the appropriate authorities.

• Propel grid interconnection and utility collaboration via applications, studies, and agreements to ensure bankable RTB outcomes.

• Establish project scope and requirements that align with the commercial strategy, ensuring that development deliverables support financing, offtake, and long-term value generation.

⛳️ Requirements

• 15 years of relevant experience with a bachelor's degree in Engineering, Communication, or Business; 12 years of relevant experience with a master's degree; or 8 years of relevant experience with a PhD.

• Over 5 years of experience in Project Management for complex projects within the Energy Generation and/or Energy Storage sectors.

• Demonstrated experience in developing projects from origination/acquisition through development approvals and grid connections.

• Project Management certification is preferred.

• Ability to rapidly learn, especially concerning specialized project technical or legal requirements.

• Strong Project Management capabilities with the ability to independently handle multiple project timelines concurrently.

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities. An agile work ethic with the capacity to address urgent project needs as they arise.

• Proficient in communicating project plans, proposals, and outcomes effectively, with the ability to negotiate options with senior management.

• Willingness to travel domestically and/or internationally, up to 30%.
