Project Controls Lead – Data Center Construction

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Offer preconstruction assistance during the project approval phase, supplying historical cost data and aiding in the creation of annual contractor purchase orders.

• Oversee the internal project budget and schedule of values using project management software for monthly financial reporting on various New Builds and Retrofit projects on campus.

• Manage the external project budget and communications through external project management software, including commitment management, change management, and document control.

• Supervise monthly forecasts and cash flows, comprehend forecast variances, and produce monthly executive reports.

• Administer the monthly vendor invoice review process within invoicing software, coordinating project management reviews, third-party auditing services, and communications with Accounts Payable.

• Ensure accurate quarterly accrual reporting for all existing purchase orders on campus, including vendor and Finance communication.

• Facilitate the change order routing and review processes within project management software, including content analysis and obtaining executive approval as necessary.

• Monthly review of project financial health with the management team (using dashboards, budget software, schedule comparisons, productivity reports, etc.).

• Update and evaluate the Internal and Contractor Risk Register.

• Conduct financial closeout of internal budgets and vendor purchase orders.

• Collaborate closely with the Site Scheduler to align financial forecasts and risks with schedule updates.

• Assist with programmatic initiatives, training, and alignment opportunities.

• Line manage approximately 3-5 staff members overseeing multiple data center locations.

• Ensure quality assurance and quality control of all deliverables, meeting all timelines.

• May involve SOX control responsibilities, which are to be followed where applicable.


⛳️ Requirements

• BA/BS or equivalent degree in construction management or engineering.

• At least 8 years of professional experience in construction and project planning for large multi-project construction programs.

• Strong collaboration skills paired with a problem-solving mindset.

• Proficient in Primavera P6, Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), and Google Suite.

• Familiarity with cost control tools (such as eBuilder, Procore, or similar).

• Ability to effectively communicate financial statuses and schedule details from multiple construction sites to project managers.

• Exceptional communication, presentation, and analytical skills are essential in this highly collaborative role.
