• Develop and nurture a portfolio of global movement partners engaged in agroecology, stewardship of the commons, and energy democracy.
• Facilitate transnational movement building, enhance narrative power, and drive global influence to alter the global frameworks that affect grassroots possibilities.
• Collaborate with regional teams in Africa, Asia and the Pacific, and Latin America and the Caribbean, along with Grants Operations and Learning teams, ensuring smooth resource movement, responsible risk management, and a focus on movement leadership in all activities.
• Identify politically aligned and value-consistent movements through networking, relationship cultivation, research, gatherings, and ecosystem mapping.
• Establish and maintain a portfolio of movement partners that act as the backbone of transnational organizing.
• Cultivate respectful and ongoing partnerships through regular communication, check-ins, and engagement in partner initiatives.
• Lead a group of partners collaborating to promote global movement solutions.
• Manage financial, intellectual, and relational resources to enhance movement resilience through various strategies, including accompaniment, responsive support, movement capacity building, and connecting partners.
• Coordinate and collaborate across global movements to assist in unifying efforts, building narrative power, and participating in global arenas where policies are determined and resources are contested.
• Develop a clear analysis of the global context and power dynamics related to strategic focus areas to guide partnership and movement convergence.
• Engage in and support movement convergence initiatives.
• Utilize insights on collective agendas and actions to promote movement priorities.
• Identify and reinforce the infrastructure that strengthens the movement ecosystem, focusing on narrative power, political education, and strategic analysis.
• Coordinate movement partners and Thousand Currents’ involvement in strategic platforms, including the preparation of briefs, schedules, and discovering opportunities to amplify movement voices.
• Act as a liaison between movements and funder coalitions; organize partner convenings, peer learning sessions, and funder connections.
• Transform learnings from movements into knowledge that informs strategy and enhances partnerships.
• Represent Thousand Currents in meetings, gatherings, and global forums, sharing analysis, amplifying partner narratives and impacts, and identifying opportunities for strategic alliances.
• Over 7 years of proven experience working with or within social movements, particularly in the Global South, on topics related to food sovereignty, agroecology, climate justice, energy democracy, land and commons, or similar fields.
• A solid political understanding of global systems and the role of movements in their transformation.
• Experience in fostering partnerships based on trust, accompaniment, and solidarity.
• Strong relational skills and cultural humility; capable of building connections across different geographies, languages, and contexts.
• Excellent project management and problem-solving abilities.
• Meticulous attention to detail.
• Highly motivated and passionate about movement building.
• Proficient in synthesis with a proven ability to interpret complex movement landscapes and convey them in clear analysis for diverse audiences.
• Comfortable with the dynamics of movement work: gatherings, emergent strategies, intentional trust-building, and quick turnarounds.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in additional languages (particularly Spanish, French, Portuguese) is strongly preferred.
• A commitment to learning and a sense of humor.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fully remote, technology-driven environment, utilizing digital tools for communication, collaboration, and work management.
• Comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a remote team that spans various geographical locations.
• Ability to maintain drive during uncertainty and adapt to rapidly shifting priorities.
• Willingness to travel as necessary, both domestically and internationally, and to engage virtually across different time zones.
• Experience in transnational movement organizing and engaging with global spaces, particularly in relation to philanthropies in climate justice, economic justice, and food sovereignty is a significant advantage.
