This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia, +1 more state.
• Ensure the precise and suitable collection of information into coding classification systems to fulfill departmental, hospital, and external agency requirements.
• Facilitate appropriate reimbursement, compliance, and billing in accordance with coding guidelines and regulatory standards.
• Acquire accurate and comprehensive medical record documentation for coding assignment, illness severity, and mortality risk.
• Collaborate with both physician and non-physician providers to enhance correct coding initiatives.
• Analyze and address missing charges and problematic accounts by investigating reimbursement information.
• Review and interpret medical record documentation to identify diagnoses and procedures, assigning ICD-10, CPT, and modifier codes accordingly.
• Perform quality and timely coding, charging, and account abstraction for designated specialty areas.
• Continuously update and enhance coding knowledge through quality reviews, clinical in-services, seminars, meetings, reference materials, and updates to coding manuals.
• Scrutinize data for precision and timeliness to ensure a clean bill.
• Reach out to physicians and other staff to gather necessary information for accurate coding.
• Oversee provider documentation, audit provider coding accuracy, and deliver education to providers as required.
• Assist Revenue Cycle Operations with claim development and resolving issue patient accounts.
• High school diploma or equivalent credential.
• Current HIM/Coding Certification through AHIMA or AAPC.
• A minimum of two years of medical coding experience.
• Familiarity with anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
• Experience with ICD-10, CPT, and modifier coding.
• Capability to sit for extended periods.
• Visual and auditory acuity within the normal range.
• Manual dexterity for operating computers and office equipment.
• Ability to lift, push, or pull items weighing 10–20 pounds.
• Capacity to focus and maintain accuracy amid frequent interruptions.
• Independent decision-making skills.
• Proficiency in prioritizing tasks and managing high-stress situations.
• Flexibility to adapt to workplace changes and organize as well as complete assigned tasks.
