This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Reviews medical records to identify relevant diagnoses and procedures related to the patient's healthcare encounter.
• Selects the primary diagnosis and primary procedure according to UHDDS definitions.
• Ensures accurate DRG assignment.
• Abstracts necessary information from the medical record in accordance with client guidelines.
• Meets productivity and quality performance standards.
• Utilizes company software to enter charts coded in real-time.
• Requests clarification from the physician regarding any ambiguous or conflicting documentation.
• Participates in team meetings and training sessions as needed.
• May engage in training or shadowing of fellow coders.
• Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the Coding Clinic, CPT Assistant, and the Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting.
• 5 years of experience in coding a variety of General Surgery procedures.
• CPC, COC, CIC, CCA, CCS, CCS-P, RHIT, or RHIA certifications.
• Experience with Epic/3M systems.
• At least 3+ years of experience coding surgical procedures, including but not limited to: tonsillectomy, tumor excision, tracheostomy, lymph node removal, thyroid lobectomy, skin graft, laminotomy, facetectomy, foraminotomy, herniated disk repair, vertebral augmentation, spinal fixation, allograft, etc.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Familiarity with medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, surgical technology, pharmacology, and disease processes.
• Comprehensive knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPS, and CPT coding principles and guidelines, as well as reimbursement systems, federal, state, and payer-specific regulations and policies related to documentation, coding, and billing.
