This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +2 more states.
β’ Serve as the intermediary between payments operations, compliance, and the engineering team β transforming operational requirements and business risks into clear, prioritized specifications for engineers to execute.
β’ Take ownership of the company-wide payments roadmap: convert business priorities into an effort-estimated, impact-assessed backlog, and be the sole accountable leader for sprint planning and prioritization for the payments engineering team.
β’ Define and manage key business performance indicators including authorization/approval rates, payment success rates, false decline rates, and cost-per-transaction; convert the gap compared to industry benchmarks (healthy e-commerce card-not-present authorization rates typically range from 85β95%, with 90%+ deemed well-optimized) into a prioritized series of requirements for engineering.
β’ Develop the business case and scoped requirements for multiprocessor/acquirer routing and failover, enabling engineering to implement intelligent routing that mitigates revenue loss during a single processor outage or high-decline processor incidents.
β’ Prioritize and define improvements to retry and recovery logic in collaboration with engineering, balancing recovered revenue against potential fraud exposure.
β’ Manage the fraud-versus-conversion tradeoff as a business decision: establish targets for reducing false declines and acceptable chargeback/dispute thresholds, then translate those into prioritized engineering tasks.
β’ Convert Merchant-of-Record obligations (such as tax compliance, disputes/chargebacks, and regional payment compliance) into product requirements for the engineering team to plan and deliver against.
β’ In your first 90 days: acquire in-depth knowledge of our PSP/acquirer integrations, routing logic, retry/recovery, fraud rules, and MoR/tax stack to effectively translate operational needs into scoped, prioritized engineering requirements β without becoming a payments engineer; establish baseline metrics and identify the top 3 sources of failed or declined transactions; assume responsibility for sprint planning for the payments engineering team; and deliver one significant, metrics-supported enhancement to the approval or payment success rate.
β’ Experience in a tech/SaaS or payments/fintech company, with direct, hands-on management of a payments/processing surface.
β’ Proven experience collaborating closely with engineering teams.
β’ Willingness to work overlapping West Coast hours due to the concentration of our product and payments strategy.
β’ Contribute to products utilized by some of the world's top game studios.
β’ Take ownership of a core product area with substantial autonomy and influence.
β’ Play a role in shaping the future of direct-to-consumer commerce in gaming.
β’ Become part of a lean, ambitious, and highly collaborative team focused on building products at scale.
