This is a fully remote position, open to applicants anywhere in the world.
• Take charge of the design for the Courses product experience at Chess.com.
• Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, Copywriters, and leadership to identify problems and develop effective product experiences together.
• Create polished, high-quality designs for our web and mobile platforms that adhere to Chess.com design patterns, utilize our design system, and maintain player engagement.
• Design the way players acquire new concepts through interactive courses and master them via habit-forming spaced repetition practice.
• Present your design proposals and clearly explain your decisions, supporting them with contextual rationale, heuristics, and user insights when available.
• Develop interactive prototypes to share and rapidly test ideas using tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, and Figma.
• Take ownership of your projects from initial concept through implementation and ensure design-to-code alignment throughout the process.
• Proactively suggest and design significant enhancements to our product to make it more enjoyable, social, and consistent across platforms.
• Support and elevate your design teammates by providing constructive feedback on their designs.
• 3-5 years of experience as a Product Designer for a consumer-facing product or game.
• A portfolio showcasing your best design work that reflects a solid understanding of interface and user experience design.
• Proficiency in UI design fundamentals, including typography, color, layout, visual hierarchy, alignment, contrast, and interactivity.
• A solid understanding and experience in designing responsive and interactive user interfaces for mobile applications and the web.
• Experience working with a large, established design system.
• Familiarity with frontend development and the translation of design into code.
• Experience utilizing AI tools like Cursor, Claude Code, and Figma to create shareable high-fidelity prototypes for quick iterations.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills within a remote, globally distributed team.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills that enable you to document and convey your design decisions effectively.
• A sense of ownership, pride, and responsibility for your craft.
• 100% remote (work from anywhere!).
